Week One Plays

I am going to start with a Thursday night play...

North Texas +17.5 over Ball State - The demise of Ball State began in the MAC championship game and continued when Brady Hoke left, Stan Parrish was hired, and the bowl game turned into a huge blowout. They do return Miquale Lewis at running back but most of the true firepower is gone. Briggs Orsbon had a great year as a true freshman but he is more of a possession receiver, not a big play threat. North Texas is still going to struggle, but they should improve defensively (can't get much worse) and I expect them to be able to score multiple touchdowns against a fairly inexperienced defense that consistently gave up points last year. I will take this many points against Stan Parrish any day!

There will be a few more plays...I am looking forward to a great year.

Eastern Michigan -4.5 over Army - I expect Eastern to be improved under Ron English, especially with the offensive talent the Eagles have coming back. They are solid at the skill positions and will out-athlete Army in key spots. In addition, even though the defense will still struggle against better opponents, English should instill an attitude that limits Army's capabilities in week one.

Minnesota -6.5 over Syracuse - This is going to be a popular one because of the small number and the fact that the Gophers should be able to score plenty against Syracuse. There has been a mass exodus in Orange country (which may be a good thing) and I don't see that ship getting steered in the right direction anytime soon.

Western Michigan/Michigan over 56 - This number is not ideal compared to what it was a few weeks back, but I see this being a shootout. From the sounds of it, Michigan has been working hard in the offseason, and in all reality, they have some playmakers coming in and some coming back that are healthy (B. Minor). If Michigan's team total is below 38, I will hop on that too.

Akron +29.5 over Penn State - Something caused this one to jump up last night, but I think it has maxed out at this number. Akron is not going to be a doormat in this year...or at least not as much of a doormat. Actually, they have a lot of experience back and now have a big time talent at running back that couldn't quite sneak into some of the bigger programs due to a criminal history...but Akron took him. On the other hand, Daryl Clark had a nice season last year but lost all of his top receivers and they were very talented. I think Akron will score some points in this one and think that more than four scores is far too much.

Thanks MC...

Another unit on Eastern Michigan -3.5 over Army - I think this is the best game on the board today, especially at 3.5 now.

Navy +22 over Ohio State - I agree with Falcon's take on this one. I think that Tressel will really slow things down in the second half, and the Navy option attack should provide a few scores.

You know your Michigan football. I can't figure out what led to that total dropping as it did ?? I really don't think that the status of Minor could have that big of an impact, do you? I had to take the plunge when it hit 53.

I have no idea why this happened, but I got back on it also at 52.5 on 5Dimes. There are a couple things that make me like this total. Michigan's offense has everyone back and have replaced their piss poor quarterbacks with two that can run the offense. Plus, if RichRod can score 40, he will try to score 50. Defensively, Michigan is still going to struggle against the pass because they have no depth in the secondary, so WMU can easily get 21-28 points themselves.

Minor can't be an issue because he was going to split carries with a lot of other backs. We shall see...

hell, I have to get some money back into 5 dimes. I have a couple outs well funded now so I didn't bother. If they take transfers I'll send some cheese over there for sure. I love bookmaker because they get the totals up early but 5 dimes is also a must.

Time to buckle up, its going to be one hell of a ride today. :scared :scared

I always have some cash in 5Dimes for the D-IAA games and occasional high school game...like last week when I grabbed St. Thomas Aquanis over Upper Arlington at the Horseshoe.

Let the games begin...
