Posted Record: 17-18 +3.65 units

A very good slate of games this weekend including 3 match-ups pitting top 10 teams against each other. Have four plays today and hope to see the road dogs come out:

LSU +145 (@ Georgia) for 2 units - #2 Tigers take on the #6 Dawgs. Bullpens are pretty even for these two clubs. Offensively there is a slight edge to Georgia, especially as 1B Poythress has been on an absolute tear. On Wednesday I wrote how you really need a power pitcher to attack Georgia. Well LSU has just that going for them tonight. They start tall fireballer Anthony Ranaudo. Ranaudo has some gaudy stats with a 3.08 ERA; 1.00 WHIP; .191 opponents avg. and 60 K?s in 38 innings. He can lose control occasionally as he has given up 7 HR?s. Georgia has their ace going in Trevor Holder. Holder has 3.06 ERA; 1.25 WHIP; 2.48 opponents avg. and 34K?s in 35 1/3 IP. Holder is a very good picture and I really like the Georgia team this year as they have depth and are very well rounded. Ranaudo gives LSU an above average chance to win this game though and should do just that if he can steer clear of giving up the long ball.

UC Irvine +165 (@ Cal State Fullerton) for 1 unit - #8 Anteaters take on the #1 ranked Titans. Very small play as Fullerton is definitely the better club and they have distinct advantages on offense and in the bullpen. However, the starting pitching matchup tonight is pretty even, which makes it worth a shot at a decent dog price. Both pitchers are very good with Daniel Bibona going for Irvine and Daniel Renken going for Fullerton. I think this could be similar to Fullerton?s series last weekend against Riverside. They could lose a pitchers? duel on Friday and then should win on Saturday and Sunday.

North Carolina +105 (@ Georgia Tech) for 4 units - #5 Tar Heels travel to #10 Georgia Tech. On paper Georgia Tech has the slight edge offensively. The bullpen edge is heavily in North Carolina?s favor as they have several guys they can trot out that are shut down type pitchers. Starting pitching is interesting as based solely on statistics it appears pretty even. Georgia Tech starts Sophomore Deck McGuire (Deck - seriously what were his parents thinking?). McGuire has a 2.50 ERA; 1.18 WHIP; .241 opponents avg. and 48 K?s in 39 2/3 IP. UNC counters with highly touted Junior Alex White. White?s numbers are off from last year?s stellar season, as he has a 4.30 ERA; 1.38 WHIP; .262 opponents avg. and 45 K?s in 37 2/3 IP. When looking deeper at the numbers though, McGuire?s stats are heavily buoyed by his first three starts which all came against average at best competition. His last three starts (he has 6 on the season total) have been against pretty good competition and he hasn?t fared well. UNC is a pretty good hitting club and should be able to get to him early. White is use to facing tough competition leading the staff to Omaha last year. He hasn?t been stellar but I believe he will start to turn it around and tonight against a club he completely shut down last year is the perfect opportunity.

Florida St. +165 (@ Miami) for 1 unit ? Similar to the Irvine play as unranked FSU takes on #11 Miami. The Hurricanes have a clear edge in the bullpen but FSU has a distinct offensive advantage. Starting pitching is pretty even in my mind. FSU starts Freshman Sean Gilmartin. Gilmartin has a 2.92 ERA; 1.14 WHIP; .208 opponents avg. and 42 K?s in 37 IP. Miami is having David Guiterrez replace struggling Chris Hernandez as their Friday starter. Guiterrez has been their Saturday starter and has a 1.51 ERA; 1.15 WHIP; 2.06 opponents avg. and 24 K?s in 35 2/3 IP. As shown by the lack of K?s, Guiterrez isn?t a strikeout pitcher and against a good hitting club like FSU I think that hurts him. For two teams that are pretty even overall, I?ll put a small play at the underdog price of +165.

GL guys.

T OFF - good luck man. I took a long hard look at Arkansas but couldn't pull the trigger. I really like them for the Saturday and Sunday matchups and will probably be playing them on those days. Hopefully the price will stay around 100. They are the better club and should be able to take the series pretty easily.

got one early one:

Georgia -130 (vs. LSU) for 1 unit - like Georgia to bounce back today. Starting pitching is pretty even. LSU has Austin Ross going today, who is good but isn't the power pitcher Ranaudo is (had 10 K's in 6 IP last night) and the type you need to be to keep Georgia's offense down. McRee goes for Georgia, and though I think he is a clearly better pitcher, he is just making his 3rd start as he was injured to start the year and has been slowly worked back into the mix. LSU has the potential to take this one, but Georgia's offense and pitching will be enough for a small play.

Looking into the later games now. Probably back with a couple other plays.

Georgia up 6-3 in the 5th. Adding these.

North Carolina +100 (@ Georgia Tech) for 3 units ? UNC won a pitcher?s duel 4-2 last night. Not only did they win, but their bullpen was hardly even touched as White pitched 8 innings and then turned it over to closer Bates. UNC has a big advantage in the bullpen between these two, and it is even more when you consider a couple of Tech?s better relievers were used last night. Starting pitching edge also goes to UNC. Senior Adam Warren takes the mound for UNC and has a 2.78 ERA; 1.12 WHIP; .234 opponents avg. and 31 K?s in 35 2/3 IP. Georgia Tech sends Junior Zack Von Tersch who has a 5.79 ERA; 1.39 WHIP; .252 opponents avg. and 35 K?s in 28 IP. With these advantages, looks good for North Carolina to take the second game.

Arkansas +110 (@ South Carolina) for 2 units ? The edge in starting pitcher tonight and bullpen makes Arkansas a good small play as a dog. TJ Forrest goes for Arkansas (3.72 ERA; 1.48 WHIP; .268 opponents avg.). Nolan Belcher starts for South Carolina (5.70 ERA; 1.65 WHIP; .289 opponents avg.). The #?s show Forrest has the edge and then when you consider Arkansas has played a tougher schedule (16 SOS vs. 67), makes it a bit more impressive.

Looking into a couple others, not sure if I?ll add anymore.

One more today:

Cal State Fullerton -130 (vs. UC Irvine) for 3 units ? great pitcher?s duel last night between these two as Irvine won 2-1. Only 11 hits allowed and only 2 walks issued, pretty impressive stuff. Another two good pitchers start today. Fullerton starts rising star Freshman Noe Ramirez. Ramirez has a 2.02 ERA; 0.81 WHIP; .174 opponents avg. and 33 K?s in 33 2/3 IP. This guy is the second best Freshman pitcher I?ve watched this season. Irvine will start Sophomore Christian Bergman. Bergman has a 2.79 ERA; 1.10 WHIP; .250 opponents avg. and 25 K?s in 42 IP. As I wrote yesterday, Fullerton has decisive edges in terms of the bullpen and offense. Berman is a good pitcher, but if they can chase him, the Irvine bullpen is pretty weak so they could break it open pretty easily.

bad day going 1-3 with Georgia being the only win. UNC killed me as they had a 3 run lead heading into the bottom of the 9th. They blow it and then lose on a grand salami in the 11th.

Updated record: 22-21 for +6.15 units.

Back in a second with today's plays.

here's one for the early one (11 am est):

LSU +110 (@ Georgia) for 2 units - rubber match today. Really like the starting pitching edge LSU has today. They start Senior Louis Coleman who pitched briefly in Friday's win. Coleman has a 1.38 ERA; 0.90 WHIP; .184 opponents avg. and 54 K's in 39 IP. He's the type of strikeout pitcher needed to control Georgia. Georgia starts Sophomore Justin Grimm. Grimm has a 4.11 ERA; 1.21 WHIP; .239 opponents avg. and 36 K's in 30 2/3 IP.

Looking into others now. GL guys.

another one:

UNC +100 (@ Georgia Tech) for 4 units - another rubber match. Going with the Tar Heels and starter Matt Harvey, who has had a few bad outings in a row. I think he bounces back today. His stats are a 5.67 ERA; 1.30 WHIP; .225 opponents avg. and 37 K's in 27 IP. He's a power thrower and that's going to give Georgia Tech some trouble. Kevin Jacob starts for Georgia Tech. Jacob has a. 2.97 ERA; 1.32 WHIP; .243 opponents avg. and 25 K's in 30 1/3 IP. Even if Harvey gets into trouble, I like UNC's bullpen to keep them in this one and able to get the victory.

last one today:

Cal State Fullerton -130 (vs. UC Irvine) for 5 units - Titans look to avoid being swept at home. They have not been able to get to Irvine's pitching scoring just 1 run in the Friday and Saturday games. Looking for the offense going against Irvine's #3 pitcher Crosby Slaught. Slaught has a 4.08 ERA; 1.57 WHIP; and 25 K's in 28 2/3 IP. Titans go with Tyler Pill who has a 3.19 ERA; 1.20 WHIP; .271 opponents avg. and 33 K's in 36 2/3 IP. Titans have too good of an offense to be held down in three straight. Irvine's bullpen is suspect so if they can chase Slaught, the flood gates should open.

another good day going 3-0 picking up 11.2 units. LSU wins 7-5, UNC wins a slugfest 13-10 and Fullerton finally gets some offense, coming back to tie in the late innings and then winning 5-4 in the 10th.

Updated record: 25-21 for +17.35 units
