Updated Record: 55-38 for +54.2 units

Last weekend of the regular season is here. Some schools are starting their weekend series today to allow for an extra day of rest prior to the conference tournaments. Two plays today:

Ole Miss -105 (@ Arkansas) for 3 units ? Arkansas is being given a lot of respect to be favored, even if only slightly and at home, over a top 10 team. They have Dallas Keuchel starting for them tonight who has pitched well lately including taking an unfortunate 2-1 loss last week @ Bama. His stats on the year are a 3.99 ERA; 1.25 WHIP; .277 opponents avg. and 51 K?s in 76 2/3 IP. Ole Miss will start Drew Pomeranz who was roughed up in his last outing but has had a really good season. His stats are a 3.58 ERA; 1.36 WHIP; .247 opponents avg. and 72 K?s in 60 1/3 IP. He?s had double-digit K?s in his last two outings and has the potential for another big outing tonight as Arkansas is a free swing club that has struck out an average of 8 times per game. Ole Miss also has a slight edge in the bullpen and a distinct edge on offense. Tough to go against a gritty pitcher like Keuchel, but there is a lot to like about the Rebels, especially the fact that Arkansas will likely struggle against a good strike out pitcher.

Alabama -180 (@ Auburn) for 3 units ? Auburn?s big strength is their potent offense as they pound out almost 2 HR?s per and have scored 7.2 runs per game despite hitting only .284 as a team. However, Bama trumps them in all offensive categories. Bama averages 2 HR?s a game, 9.3 runs per game and bats .337 as a team. Another alarming stat is the rate of strikeouts per game Auburn averages. They have struck out an average of 10.65 times per game! Auburn needs a lot of offense given that their pitching is simply not good as they have a 6.15 team ERA. Starting tonight for them is Jon Luke Jacobs who has been roughed up in his recent outings and all season long honestly. His stats are a 6.10 ERA; 1.79 WHIP; .310 opponents avg. and 49 K?s in 62 IP. Bama will start Austin Hyatt, who was the opposing pitcher that outdueled Arkansas? Keuchel in that 2-1 game last week. Hyatt has pitched real well this season and has a 3.13 ERA; 0.89 WHIP; .215 opponents avg. and 76 K?s in 89 IP.

GL guys.

Ole Miss wins 7-5 but Bama loses 3-2 in the 10th. Bama wasted a good outing by Hyatt as he pitched 8 1/3 before turning it over to the pen with no one on in the 9th. Auburn scored 1 in the 9th and 10th to pull it out.

1-1 on the day for -2.4 units. See you guys tomorrow.

Two plays today out of the Big XII:

Texas A&M +110 (@ Oklahoma) for 4 units ? Brooks Raley, Brooks Raley, and Brooks Raley ? that?s what this play is about. Oklahoma has a very good offense team and has the edge in that category, but its not often you get a starting pitcher of Raley?s status at a dog price. On the season Raley has a 2.67 ERA; 0.95 WHIP; .205 opponents avg. and 89 K?s in 84 1/3 IP. And A&M has the #12 SOS in the country, so he?s not piling up these stats against the MAC. Raley did get roughed up last week against Texas, but the odds of him having two straight poor performances is not likely. Starting for the Sooners will be their normal Friday starter Andrew Doyle. Doyle has been good but definitely not great this season. His stats are a 4.19 ERA; 1.22 WHIP; .264 opponents avg. and 54 K?s in 73 IP. He didn?t pitch last weekend as he was suspended for violating team rules. Prior to that he had been roughed up in his last couple of outings. Although as mentioned Oklahoma has an offensive advantage, A&M has the better arms and I really think that is going to be displayed this weekend.

Kansas State -220 (vs. Kansas) for 2 units ? Another play based on the starting pitching advantage. The conference pitcher of the year is likely to be a two horse race between Raley and Kansas State?s AJ Morris. Morris has very impressive stats with a 1.67 ERA; 1.00 WHIP; .201 opponents avg. and 83 K?s in 91 2/3 IP. Kansas starts Shaeffer Hall who has been roughed all season in conference play. His season stats aren?t too bad in a 4.58 ERA; 1.35 WHIP; and .297 opponents avg. However, in conference play his stats are a 6.41 ERA; 1.58 WHIP; and .340 opponents avg. Considering Kansas St. has the distinct advantage on the offensive end, makes this play very appealing and is the reason for the high juice. Normally I don?t play fav?s this high, but there is just too much too like about Kansas State. With Morris going for them, and facing a pitcher that has constantly been hit hard the last several weeks, it?s definitely worth the play for a couple of units.

Went 1-1 yesterday dropping 2 units as K-State wins but A&M loses. They were both small, but that makes two straight losing days and that hasn't happened since the early weeks of the season. Time to turn it around today. One early play (noon cst start):

Georgia -130 (@ South Carolina) for 4 units - Final game of the series with the Gamecocks having won the first two. Georgia is on a major slump having lost their last 4 weekend series. Might seem a bit odd that a team on this big of a slide is at -150 on the road, but that shows you the potential of this Georgia team. Just over a month ago they were a top 10 team, but they need to get going otherwise their season won't last much longer. Anyway, the offenses are similar in my mind and the potent Georgia bats have been quiet for awhile now and need to break out. Starting pitching I also really like the Bulldogs. South Carolina starts Blake Cooper (4.74 ERA) who has pitched well his last couple of outings, but those have been against some weak teams. His last couple of outings against good offenses hasn't fared well. Georgia starts Justing Grimm (4.36 ERA), who has pitched the best of any Georgia starter during this horrid stretch. He's held his own against some of the best offenses in the SEC and should be able to do it again today.

Back later with at least a couple other plays. GL guys.

just one more for today:

Texas A&M +105 (@ Oklahoma) for 4 units - I'm feeling a bit of deja vu as last weekend I was going against the Sooners in every game based solely on pitching. They took 2 of 3 last weekend and the game last night. Well, guess I'm a glutton for punishment as I'm back at it again. A starter hasn't been named for Oklahoma and I think that speaks a bit to their pitching issues. Today I don't believe they will be able to outslug their pitching issue. A&M starts Ross Hales who has pitched really well as of late, including last week's complete game 3 hit shut out of Texas. On the season he has a 3.50 ERA and 65 K's in 61 2/3 IP. In conference play opponents have only hit .221 against him. Time for A&M to step up and even the series today.
