Ted Purdy 250-1 e.w. @Sportingbet
--Was fully prepared to concede this tourney to Tiger before they even tee off because of his stellar record here. But then I saw this gem. A 10th last week, he has to be one of the few walking away from Baltusrol feeling good about his game. I have to think the 150-1 at Golfing Gods is a more reasonable price.

Just noticed Sportingbet is going 1/5 for place, be careful.

I understand what you are saying, but 1/5 of 250 is still better than 1/4 of 150, the line being offered everywhere else I looked today. I wouldn't play a line available elsewhere at Sportingbet. 250-1 is way too high compared to the market.

Geoff Ogilvy 100-1 e.w. @ Sportingbet
--Finished 6th last week and 5th at the Open. Overall, his form has been pretty good the last few months except for a blip at the International. He's got the game to win this tournament. Even though SB is only paying 1/5 on the place side of this wager, it would still pay better than a 1/4 of 66-1.

(Note: I am not 100 percent sure he is in the field. He's 45th this week in the world golf ranking, which is good enough to get in. But he is still not listed on any of the NEC field lists)

Alright, but they used to offer 1/4 for almost all tournaments so I thought it might be good to post that note, in case you oversaw that change.

I think it was good to post it too because I didn't think about it and some players there are priced the same as books paying a 1/4 on the place. As you said originally, you have to be careful.

It is a smaller field this week (last year I think they went off in two-balls if I am not mistaken) so that is why the probably dropped it down. BUt they are still offering some high opinions on outrights.

Good luck.

Tournament Matchup
David Toms -121 vs. Kenny Perry @ Pinnacle
--Toms has much better course form. May also back him in the outright markets. I missed the early numbers that were apparently out there, so I am trying to find a good one.

Bye Bye!

"Believe it or not, the man who treasures majors more than money, food and sleep left the PGA Championship early even though he still had a remote chance to get into a playoff and win.

That's right, Tiger Woods flew home to Orlando on Sunday night after weather halted play at Baltusrol. He was the leader in the clubhouse at 2-under-par 278 and only three players finishing Monday morning were ahead of him ? Phil Mickelson at 4 under and Steve Elkington and Thomas Bjorn at 3 under. Also, Vijay Singh and Davis Love III were tied with him, and Retief Goosen was a shot back.

As it happened, that's how the leaderboard ended up. But had all three players ahead backed up to a 2-under total on their last three or four holes, including the two closing par 5s, Woods would have missed the playoff because he was MIA.

You might say he would have kicked himself for a year or 10 had that happened. That would have gone down as one of the biggest boners in the history of sports . . ."

Let's see . . . Elkington quacked one into the trees on 18. Bjorn stepped up big when he holed a medium length birdie putt on 17. That leaves only Phil Mickelson, who was 5 over par over the prior 31 holes and had squandered as many precious opportunities in the majors as the rest of the contenders combined. Stranger things have certainly happened, but NOTHING in the history of sports would have been more stupefying than if Tiger Woods had been MIA for a Monday playoff. Hindsight didn't vindicate his foresight, but in Wood's typical fashion, he'll 'splain that of course he was vindicated. Whatever.

Fred Funk + 179 vs. Phil Mickleson First round

Just a play bases on the hangover theory. FWIW: My buddy who is a marshall out at firestone tells me that Phil was nowhere to be seen yesterday for the practice rounds. Guess he got in really late and did not get a round in. I am usually not one to jump on unconfirmed 2nd hand info, but in this case I'll bite for a 1/2 unit.

Angel Cabrera 90-1 win only @WSEX, 14-1 Top 5 at 5dimes
--Took me a few days to find out why he didn't play in the PGA as I wanted to back him there. According to the Latin AMerica tour Web site (forgive me if that is not even close to its official name) he had just chest problems which turned out to be nothing and is OK and ready to go. As for backing him, it would be tough to find a player at these odds who is more consistent than Angel. A fourth here last year shows he likes the course.

2nd rd
outright furyk 15/1 to plave top 5 @ Cbet

2nd rd props all over the total
+100 woods/perry 20.5
-105 couples/cink 19.5
-115 garcia/singh 19.5
-105 donald/furyk 19.5

believe they have over adjusted-- interesting the drop in girs 1st rd from prior years--weather similiar to last year--appears rough a little tougher and fairways narrowed a tad.

on Furyk--lot of time to come back--I have him ranked 2nd behind Woods here with players of minimum of 3events last 5 years with 68.5 scor ave--29% of fairways hit yesterday very uncharacteristic of him and still managed just 2 over.
