(AP) - A judge gave Terri Schiavo's husband permission to remove the brain-damaged woman's feeding tube in three weeks, handing him a victory in his effort to carry out what he says were his wife's wishes not to be kept alive artificially. The ruling by Pinellas Circuit Court Judge George Greer will allow the husband, Michael Schiavo, to order the tube removed at 1 p.m. on March 18. this is why it's important for everybody to have health care surrogate declarations in place and living wills. I have seen some sad situations over the years, and many times, the person's wishes are clearly not followed.

she has nothing more than primitive midbrain functions...no cortical functioning whatsoever

neurologists just throw their hands up in the air.....let her die

We should keep an open mind on this. He may be a gazillion in the hole with debt due to health care costs of the situation.

Why would anyone want to stay "alive like that" Living is more than breathing with the aid of a machine. People do not recover from brain damage.

I agree that her wishes should be upheld if they are truly her wishes. However, there has got to be a more humane way for her to pass. Lethel injection or something- but to starve her is inhumane. If it's against the law to starve a dog for example, then how can it be ok to starve her?

without corticial function she cannot perceive pain/hunger/anything

and if she can, you load her up on morphine

There is some question about how she got into this state.....did the husband try to kill her?

He wants to marry another woman and collect on the wife's estate. Something is not right about this. He can just divorce her if he wants and hand over custody to her parents.

Something is wrong. Keep her alive.
