Unfortunately for now Scott, this cant just be dropped. As a criminal matter it would have had to be settled before charges were filed. As opposed to a civil proceding, this is out of the victims hands now. Once the DA files charges, thats it, Kobe cant just "buy her off" anymore because the DA is in charge. And even after the DA is done with Kobe, she could still file a civil case if she wanted to. This of course would most likely be settled long before it hit a courtroom.
Before this came down yesterday I figured no way it would get this far. But this is a real small town in Colorado, with a 34 year old District Attrorney. I dont think this is theater at all. I have to think the guy is smart enough (Dartmouth grad), knows what he is doing and has gone over the evidence a million times, knowing how much scrutiny and how much legal power Kobe could bring down on him. Think about it, 400 cameras, the world watching, Kobe's financial prowess ready to hire a legal army - I have to think there is something there, either physical evidence or witnesses who heard what happened. There has to be a good amount of evidence against Kobe, or he would never have filed a Felony count against him. He isnt dumb enough to say well, there is no evidence but we will file anyway to get my 15 minutes of fame. It only would make him look worse, not better.
Sidebar on Kobe's part, very smart to admit to the adultery. Now the physical evidence they have as long as its just evidence of sex and not abuse, means next to nothing because he already copped to the sex. That makes me think more than anything that they have some other evidence against him.
