It's the dumbest thing in the world it is always covered correctly because they go over it all week in practice. It works once in a blue moon in HS because some one has a brain fade and doesn't line up over the right man.

What Cie said, and also, in the highly highly unlikely scenario that a team doesn't adjust, you can just throw the ball out there for an easy 2-point conversion.

Yeah, its to see if the defense lines up correctly, or they will exploit the weakness and go for two.

The main possibilities are if they dont line up enough defenders over the ball, or the other and more likely, that they dont line up enough defenders outside against all the linemen. In that case, they quickly throw the ball behind the line of scrimage to the back on the outside, while the lineman blow off the ball... the running back walks in.

I didnt know what the hell, until I saw it actually work.

Yeah, basically you can snap it directly to the guy behind the line (which is lined up near the sideline) and have a bunch of blockers in front of you.

I don't really understand why its done any more. Its not hard at all to adjust, both to the 2-pt and to the eventual PAT...

But the answer, as posted, is that it gives a chance at an easy 2-pt play if the defense takes a nap.
