I am sorry, I didn't realize you didn't understand what I was saying. There are rules of fair play that the badminton teams broke and were subsequently disqualified for breaking those rules, or more easily put, cheating.
I guess this is where it get's really complicated. Once they are eliminated, they cannot win. Can't win a battle or a war if you don't stand and fight, period. They took a chance and lost. So by being eliminated from the competition you still stand by the notion that they did the right thing in order to win? Get eliminated, that's winning?
Hopefully, this is more clear to you now. They aren't competing for anything except a window seat home. They didn't stand and fight, so they never won a battle or a war. A very poor metaphor for this instance by the way.
