Been watching ESPN "experts" for an hour now to see what they saw and cannot believe they didn't see this. I put this on their website to see if anybody else agrees.

BTW, it makes what happened even worse IF I'M right...

Hey ESPN, here's what REALLY happened..
I think I saw the problem. You have to watch the whole clip of the disastrous final play of the game. Now, watch the two referees that ran to the players with the ball. CLOSELY watch the second referee and he's actually looking at the first (to get to the area) referee and as the first referee STARTS to put his hands UP - that second referee thinks he's going to signal touchdown. So, he copies the first referee and signals TOUCHDOWN (playing it safe; thinking he's agreeing with the first ref. who was really signaling touchBACK),

CAN NOT believe they actually went along with the erroneous "copy cat's call" with the review which was probably due to what they feared what may have happened with the Seattle fans in their home field. UGH!

(MJers, can you just imagine the money that went the wrong way on account of this fluckup?)

I think u r exactly right about the ref (#26) thinking his partner is going to signal TD as he begins to raise his arms, when actually he was signaling stop clock, interception, etc.

I'm reposting what I wrote in another post cuz I think it applies here too.

"I understand the concept of refs not wanting to make a call to decide the game (much like the nba refs) and let the players decide.
And I know there can be a lot of shoving on this type of play, I understand that there's a lot more leeway that is always allowed both offensive and defensive players.

But,

there's NO way you allow the totally blatant shoving down of the GB def bk, and THEN u walk over and as your officiating partner is signalling game over.. YOU decide to raise your hands and signal touchdown!!
I actually think the white ref saw the other ref start to raise his hands and was just going along right?? EXCEPT the correct official was raising to signal stop clock, interception.... and #26 just kept going up in the air for TD...

Ref #26 should have....

1) thrown the flag for offensive interference on Tate.... or

2) ruled that GB intercepted (as about 99% of the rest of humanity watching the game agree that's what happened).

HEAD REF should have gathered both of the other officials involved and grilled them to see which one had better view and stronger opinion, etc and then overruled the fugger!!

you DON'T reward the player for obviously "cheating" and getting away with it on that play by calling TD!! That's how it should have been officiated. Period.

I was listening to the former ref (austin) in the booth with Gruden and he said the rules didn't allow the officials to overrule who had "possession"... and obviously that's a change that could be looked at if such a travesty were ever to happen again.

I lost a 2tm 3tm, 4tm and 5tm parlay (GB ml and -3 and -3.5).... over 3k in winnings turns into $272 in losses.

I think most of these refs are in over their heads (but not all), but definitely #26 tonite (the white guy that blew the last call).... his buddies will remember him forever!

personally, I wanna forget that shitty ref as soon as I possibly can, but I fear he'll be in my nightmares tonight!

QUESTION:
Why wouldn't TOP COLLEGE REFS be used?? WHY the Div III guys????

That last play reminds me of the last time I had my prostate checked by the eager doctor ~ that nearly forgot the glove til I reminded him!! :scared :scared

They say that shit evens out over time..... I guarantee ya I've been on the losing side of that shit 50 times to about 4 miracle wins...

I'll feel better about it sometime in the near future I hope!"

I was told top college refs are governed by the NFL ref union (or somehow connected to the NFL ref union). That's why they weren't used.

Somethng else

Somethng else

Man, I could just imagine how you feel about them stealing your winnings, LoB I'd be depressed for weeks.

I cannot even begin to tell you about what ALL the screw ups costed me in money and stress over the past 5 years or so. It doesn't only happen in sports and betting, although I probably don't have to write that. From the -

Mishandling by THREE professional people/businesses of my mother's holdings that enabled one of my sisters to run to the bank and withdraw all of my mother's holdings within a half hour of her passing. My mother's will and intentions were to leave each of her children (3) equal shares and despite my efforts at the time to stop my sister's intention - sister got away with it. Oh yeah, I wound up getting my share ($35 g. and they all had to cough up their share) but it costed me $18 g. legal fees and 5 years of stress to do it on account of the screw ups -> elder care service, the lawyer I got to stop the injustice of my sis at that time, and the bank that accepted a bogus change of will form from my sister with my mother's signature on it and an EXPIRED Notary Public's stamp. This happened 6 years ago.

Little stuff as well...

Last week -

Local bakery wants customers to call a day before if they want CRUMB BUNS (ain't kidding). My wife calls last week and orders 6. She drives the 5 miles there the next morning - they forgot to make them. :(

YESTERDAY (ain't kidding and I don't BS)...
About 3 weeks ago the Bank with my mortgage for a condo I own sends me a letter that they believe (erroneously, of course) that there was a lapse in my flood insurance coverage and they will have to buy an insurance policy and charge me for it unless I can prove that there was no lapse. I call my insurance agent and she tells me she'll send them proof that there was no lapse. A week latter, I call the bank and their Rep. tells me that NO charges were made for any insurance to my mortgage account. I even asked her to make sure and she assured me that there are no charges on my record.
This past weekend I get an ECROW bill for the flood insurance policy from the bank. I call the bank yesterday (Monday) and tell them that my insurance agent sent them proof that there was no lapse - she checks and sure enough my file (her computer) shows that my agent did prove that there was no lapse. DAMN. Of course, they're gonna take off the charges now that I called. But still

Maybe this stuff will make you feel better and there's plenty I left out. Hell, the norm today is ordering crispy duck from the Chinese restaurant and get home, open it and find chop suey. Just terrible what the hell is going on out there. And now on the football field which are more excusable than the more important stuff going on.

Totally Agree Jimbo, commented on lords comment in another thread. Pretty sad when a game is decided by a refs misinterpetation to what his fellow ref was going to call instead of the play itself. I was sure it would be over turned when they reviewed it! Best of luck to you Jimbo, if that's possible. Looks like I have company in the bad luck department. I've always said if it was raining pussies I'd get hit in the head with a dick!

Glad some folks enjoyed the post, thanks for chiming in. Even though I didn't have any action on that game, I'll remember it for a long, long time. Those Packers really took it on chin on their trip to Seattle and I mean that more ways than one.

Comfortable one: CHOP SUEY :mj02:

tcon142: NICE one liner at the end of your reply :142smilie. I'm with you on all counts - it's a jungle out there. GOOD LUCK the rest of the way,

I'm heading back to the college FB place but it was a good time, visiting this NFL forum.
