Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
I saw this at another site, can not vouch for it.

Hello everyone,
As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to "The War Zone". I wanted to share with you what happened. He got off the plan and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram. As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service. So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you. I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States. I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.
If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

Saw this at another unnamed site. Referenced to no one in particular, from a person that is supposedly non-political, who just wanted to share a true picture of Obama, with the thread headline claiming What the Soldiers think of Barrack visit.

Hmm...:00x32

Okay, I'm in! :00x15

I was just commenting on the thread title and the content that was posted. It certainly could be true - but the Obama blanket party that has been going on here already is growing a little tiresome. I meant no disrespect.

Although your comment on who is being groomed to be Pres is a little funny to me. Obama and his campaign engage in this tremendous trip which shows him as being motivational, worldly, welcomed, and a leader is a stroke of political genius, IMO. I don't think he's being groomed by the media in this situation.

And, sausage restaurant voters don't like to be ripped, either. There you go again with your elitist rhetoric...;)

I like him personally, he has fire in his speeches, kind of reminds me of the idealism of the sixties.

In any event he is a fresh face..whether we get a Democratic president with great accomplishments, or a Jimmy Carter part two, time will tell.

This country does need fresh leadership.
Someone needs to boot the lobbyists out on the street, for one thing. They do not represent the average people.

Someone who thinks outside the box and inspires a rational motivational goal to spur the American dream forward...

Kinda like Kennedy and his man on the moon in a decade type thing...

Energy independance by 2020 would be a great goal...

take the Billions we piss away overseas on unwinnable battlefronts, unreliable "allies" and dedicate it towards the US of A...jobs, education, infrastructure.

If nothing is done soon, our children better be well versed in Mandarin and Hindi as they will be the future call centers....

"Hello my name is Xiang Ping Pong" "I am in Omaha...may I what help you, Mr Wang-fu?"

You notice everywhere he goes he does a speech but when it came to Israel it was an ass kiss fess? Everyone is on eggshells just waiting for a mistake? The freaking day one politicians stands up (grows some balls) and calls the Israel bullshit with these **** suckers from the Aipac lobby for what it is, this country would be so much better off. We can go back to the Carter interest rates, gas 20 dollar a gallon, families in America backs broken, and these pricks would still want their welfare. Friends like this lobby who needs enemies.

Dead Money you are hoping for something that this man has never committed to. I can't even get cok-sucker KOD to tell me exactly what "change" is coming or what this man has ever done to indicate things such as you've stated above will ever happen.

People will vote for hope. Out of the pan and into the fire.

Well, Wease, I think you have to admit he was doomed either way on that deal. The Pentagon didn't want him to go there since it was deemed a political visit for a candidate and taking advantage of injured troops (which I think is probably a good rule to have in place, at face value, BTW), so if he went it would be deemed an opportunist. If he doesn't go (after the Pentagon said no), then he is being disrespectful to the troops.

In some ways, he certainly cannot win. Don't get me wrong...I am still not convinced I'm gonna vote for the guy, I think you know that. I put a lot of faith in local takes on politicians (like I.O., etc.), and I was not in his camp in the primary race. But I will say that when I see the ignorant ripping of him for obviously ignorant reasons - the kind that goes on in thread after thread here, and by talking heads elsewhere - it does motivate me to support him. I'm not referring to the judgments of his experience and connections (to a degree), just the usual fluff Hussein-type references.

I think things are really going to heat up moving forward. And this trip is a pretty impressive whirlwind world tour, that he can surely make political hay with.

...........................................................

Obama wants to have a head start if he is elected in November 2008.

Meeting key leaders now will make the transition into foreign affairs that much easier in the future.

I wish that George W would have been like this.
There are dark clouds but silver linings.

Where will we go from here?
