I feel like someone hit me in the head with a two by four. Bang! Right between the eyes. I must have been insane to back Rogers tonite against the Athletics. What a horrible bet. Even worse, the kid for the As in his first start is pitching a one-hitter. Talk about pouring salt in an open wound. If I ever take the Rangers again, please have me commited.

Don't be so hard on yourself Nolan...it still was a solid pick...anyone who picks a youngster in his first major league start over a seasoned veteran with a decent record over the years is hoping for a whole lot of luck or just plain stupid...Texas will still win some money before the year is out...in the right situation of course...

btw...how is the title to your book coming along? I remember you saying there may be some kind of problem due to similarity or something like that...I was thinking that if "Behind the Shades" couldn't work for the title...maybe "Purple Chip" would be appropriate...

With you on the Texas play, liked it so much took the run line!! I see they scored, need a really big rally cap. Enjoy your commentary and follow your picks. Maybe we should have just went with the over?? Hindsight is 20/20. Good luck tomorrow.

Let's not give up just yet. We still have 5 innings to play and we have all seen crazier shit happen. Not many as crazy as this would be, but some.

Nolan, I showed every indication that the play was Tex and under. How bad did I miss it? One of the few smart things I've done today was pass on it only because I hate to go against someone I know nothing about. We'll get them tomarrow.

Guess if we're to find any ray of sunshine at all in these kind of situations, Nolan, we could get philosphical and say that if one of our picks has to lose, better it be in a blaze like this than to be on the wrong end of one of those bottom of the ninth umpire-blows-the-call kind of games.

We could...but naaahhh..both hurt the ol' bankroll the same

BTW...I've never personally tracked this, but a pretty decent handicapper a long time ago told me about an angle play where you play ON a rookie pitcher pitching in his first major league start (his "maiden debut", as he put it). Claimed the angle was really solid.

I know, I know...a little late now...and also, like I said...I've not personally done the research to check it out, but I do know that because of hearing about that angle way back when, I'll usually stay off a "maiden" game.

Hang in there...you'll get 'em next time.

its only one play not the end for sure. better loose in a blow out then by a freakin blown save. i have eatin bitter pills the last month. could have been up very very large but am barely hovering above even money, which is still not that bad, but could have been a lot sweeter. as i write tejada jacks his 3rd of the game.

i stayed away form this game but i too believe analysis was right for sure. only time i think to bet on a rookie with his first time facing a team is when they play atlanta. for some reasons atlanta can never hit a pitcher they see for the first time. they make them all look like cy young canidates. best of luck next time. gl to all.

Hey Nolan,
FOOTBALL,S COMIN'
smile.gif

I've told you before, there's no one I've seen as sharp as you! Anyway, after I saw the score I thought about what happens when there is a key injury in any sport. Many times teams will circle the troops to compensate for the loss of one of their stars. That may be what happened tonight.Oakland obviously felt the need to hit the shit out the ball, not knowing what the kid had and to come up big for him.
Teheda 3 dingers for 8 r.b.i.!That's unbelievable.
Maybe time to look at OVERS in 1st starts. Haven't looked up stats but just a thought.
Keep up the good work you do for all of us.

yes, nolan, stop second guessing yourself.

we all have a tendency to act strange in between football seasons, and like the man said, it is just around the corner.

see you there soon,
