I don't like the "don't buy American" attitude at all. Maybe ten years ago and back that was true but no longer. To be fair we have one import (BMW 540) and one domestic (Mustang GT).

To be honest I have had far more trouble with the BMW than we have had with the GT. Thankfully the car was a CPO so the repairs were covered. That is another thing to consider if you plan on keeping the car because few shops are equiped to service high end German imports and they are very expensive to maintain

The American auto makers have really improved greatly over the past couple of years and I would not even consider an import at this time. A good friend of mine just picked up the new Taurus SHO and that car rocks, great looks and outstanding performance that would cost another 15-25 K to find in an import with similar specs. I understand that you are not looking for a high performance car, just using the SHO as an example.

Give the American autos a fair shake and you just may be surprised.

My wife has a 4 cylinder accord and I drive a 6 cylinder escape. We are both going to replace our cars within the next 2 years. Currently looking at Escape Hybrid and Honda CRV, and recently eliminated the Prius (which turned out to be too small for our needs). I have always liked the Outback, so will look at those too.

I won't say I will NEVER buy American - but when I sit in my friends band new Ford Escape - it looks and feels cheap and shitty. The seat is so uncomfortable. PLUS - the rear alignment is off and wearing down his back right tire. It's a freakin' 08....

FORD can suck my right nut - I will take a Honda any day over a Ford.

(I am not talking about Civic's - fuck! Those cars are for midgets. - How a bout a Honda Ridgeline?)

I work for a Chevy dealer, not gonna pimp GM in this post, but wanted to warn you about VW :scared

sold some parts to a VW Tech this week, just happened to ask him about VW, ( I drove a Golf Diesel in the mid 80's)
I did not get a favorable response from him! :nono:

Before you buy anything,... get out of the showroom and go talk to a parts guy or Tech :nono:

Like you, I am a fan of Honda. As posted earlier this thread, my next car will most likely be an Escape Hybrid or a Honda CRV.

I drive an escape now, and can verify the interior is cheap-looking. Fortunately, for me it works out great, as I have never been one to worry about impressing folks with my possesions, and my taste in vehicles is generally simple. I bought the car for peanuts in 2005 with less than 3K miles. I now have 110K+ miles without a single mechanical issue of any kind. It also received good crash test ratings. Plus, I get 23-24 mph, which is solid. I recommend the Escape to anyone in need of a small SUV, but only if you are not concerned with luxury amenities and fancy finish.

Recently got a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander and highly recommend it. If you are looking at the small to mid SUV sizes, definitely take a look at it.
