10 years ago, almost any discussion of the best teams in college football always included the Big 3 teams in Florida - Florida, Florida State, and Miami.

Seeing the scores go by today, with Miami losing to Duke just made me wonder... what the hell happened to Florida State and Miami???

These 2 teams are basically afterthoughts in college football these days..... is it the lack of a real conference that is killing these 2 teams?

We always use to hear, 10 years ago, that all the best football players, and the most speed, was located in Florida - and that these 3 programs kept all the best players in state.... does that not happen anymore?

Do people not want to play for Miami anymore, due to them being known as THUG U? What is Florida State's excuse?

I'd love to hear some insight on this - it's shocking how these mighty programs, in a geographical recruiting goldmine, have fallen......

All comes down to Scholarships..... rules have changed over the years in football. Like 10-15 years ago they capped the # at 85 allowed per team. Now kids are going all over the country to play when they are offered a scholarship. MIami and fsu used to have high quality recruits as 2nd and 3rd stringers, now those players are playing in colleges like Wakeforest and such......

I understand what you are saying... but Florida didn't run into that issue... they are one of the top teams every year.

I'm trying to figure out why the 3 schools were pretty equal 10 years ago and now only Florida is really succeeding on the national stage anymore.

MY guess would be conference - the SEC makes Florida legitimate, while the Big East and ACC are not really football conferences.

That is my opinion - but I was wondering if there were other reasons why these 2 mighty programs have fallen and can't get up....
