Actually they were short. But the refs are blind and gave it to them

i think that's what pissed me off the most about that play. they gave rice an extra 2 yards, then pulled it back half a yard after reviewing the play. on the one angle they showed, the ball was right next to the defender's knee at the moment rice's knee touched the ground. and the defender's foot was touching the 35 yard line. so unless his leg was severely broken, and there's 6 feet from his foot to his knee, that was a terrible spot. the ref who spotted it was about 10 yards upfield.

was that game officiated by replacement refs?
