I love how the weather people feel the need to name everything. Winter storms are named, "polar vortex". Whatever happened to cold air mass. Doesn't have quite the media sizzle.

Well "Polar Vortex" was named so back in the 1850's. It is an uncommon weather pattern and that is probably why it isn't as familiar to you. Personally, I prefer polar vortex as it is a more complete description of why we are having this unusual weather. Just my two cents.

Hope this helps,

This mornings wind chill was a nice cozy minus fourfuckingteen below zero . We have been considerably colder than the entire state of Alaska with the exception some of the northern border outposts....... The great thing is that it's supposed to stay this way for one more week.

It's wonderful :0074

Between Green Bay and Iowa City
(1) In my corner of Iowa, the high yesterday was a lovely 0 degrees. The high today has already reached 26 degrees, but with wind gusts of 33 mph.

(2) A meteorology review of the polar vortex and its consequences: http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/201...l-it-a-polar-vortex-meteorologists-plead?lite

(3) What is really shocking to me about the weather is that I looked at the long range forecast on accuweather.com yesterday, and February 2 is the only day through the first week of March (six full weeks from now) in which the forecast called for a high of at least 40 degrees. Lots of cold days and bitterly cold nights coming up for a while.

Up to 5 inches expected overnight and tomorrow followed by an additional inch on Sunday before the next blast of artic air arrives Monday. Almost certain my kids won't have school Monday.
Been spoiled the last few winters for sure. I've ran outside 3 times since thanksgiving when I was outside 3-4 days a week.
It's only January, but I'm sick of winter....:sadwave:
