Al,

Little shorter in stature, but I'm the spittin' image of Joey Buttafucco.

(At least that's what I've been told. I've also heard that if I had a beard, moustache and my hair was darker I could pass for Fidel Castro !)

Not sure why I have never gotten into World Cup.

I guess because they didnt televise the games, like they did this year. Very difficult to cap so I stopped doing that about 3 weeks ago.

Have to say cup game was very enjoyable to watch.

Its a world sports event.

Can only get bigger in the states now.

Next year I will be ready for it.

It's a bother.

Countless women have told me I look like Antonio Banderas.

I don't know who to believe anymore.

disagree with this statement completely. they've been saying that since 1994 when the world cup was in the us.

theres nothing wrong with soccer. some like it others don't. to each his own. not sure where i stand, but i'm glad it was on this last month, better than not being on. day sports are good. kills time during the day.

as for popularity in the us, it will never catch on to the scale it does elsewhere. primarily because our atheletes would much rather play football, basketball, and baseball.

also, and more importantly, television networks can't stand it. u.s. networks thrive on commercials, and with soccer you just don't get any except halftime when everyone changes the channel anyway. i understand they put the coke logo or whatever by the clock, but it's not even close to the same.

i enjoyed the world cup and would be in favor of it every 2 years even, just don't think its ever gonna get bigger here. they had their chance in 1994 to make a push here when we held the tournament, but besides an mls league which is only on pay per view and that few care about on a national scale, its gone downhill. the national team has even gone downhill making the second round 4 years ago, and getting embarassed this year.

All of your points are valid and true, but this is the big one.

The US is doing the world a favor by not getting into soccer. Could you imagine if Barry Sanders played the 'other' football? Allen Iverson? Just about any NFL cornerback? We would be unstoppable and the world would get bitter and international relations would be that much more tense.

Better we continue to play the role like Nixon sending ping pong players to China specifically to lose and make the other side(s) feel better.

Our sports are generally better anyway. Soccer is good for drinking and fighting and singing, but not much else.
