Ctownguy,
I don't find it 'useless' having discussions with people here about politics. That should be obvious as I post in probably half of them or so. However, I was answering Nick and trying to explain why I don't feel compelled to get involved with every one, particularly the last several.
A thread that is 80% flames and name-calling is just not interesting to me and that's what the recent ones have been. No big deal, I just don't post in them.
As far as the name-calling goes, in general, all it takes is one shot from someone on either side in one thread and forevermore in every thread it will turn into a bashfest between those people. I have no idea who 'started it' between any two people. It could be from two years ago for all I know.
I know that Eddie can be frustrating at times and I went off on him 3 or 4 months ago when he was mocking the law school that somebody was attending. I probably went too far in that post, but I understand what you are saying in general. That said, I think he and I both feel that is water under the bridge and we've been cordial with each other since then and I look forward to drinking and golfing with him this summer in Atlantic City.
I doubt i'm nearly as 'liberal' as Eddie, but of course I am going to agree with his political posts much more easily than you. You take things really personally and react as such. Honestly, from thread to thread, it seems that you go off on somebody without your named having even been mentioned. Now, like I said, I have no idea who originally started it back in the day, but from thread to thread, it's you, my man. That's not a slam on you, but just do a search.
You shouldn't always paint everything as 'you liberals' and 'us conservatives'. You have repeatedly mocked the concept that somebody can actually judge each situation on it's merits, but you're wrong. My posts about this admin have been very narrow in scope and have almost exclusively revolved around getting involved in Iraq. If Kerry wins and continues on to Iran in 2005, then I will be just as vocally against it and i'll assume that you'll be very supportive and Wilson will still be jumping up and down in front of his TV, cheering. This has nothing to do with being 'liberal' and has everything to do with being of the opinion that this is bad for America in so many ways.
If you were to come up with 10 major issues that Republicans and Democrats typically disagree on, i'd probably fall on each side 5 times. That doesn't include starting random wars where the planning started 2 months after 9/11 and the expressed desire started 2 days after the inauguration.
