IF THE 1974 NC STATE TEAM FROM 1974 ISN'T IN THE TOP 20 , IT'S A JOKE. 30-1 AND BEAT WALTON AND UCLA.......I LOVED WATCHING DAVID THOMPSON BACK IN THE DAY. THEY WERE UNDEFEATED THE YEAR BEFORE. WTF. :facepalm:

The 1990 UNLV team would be high on my list. I know they lost the next year but they lost to a very good team and IMO they lost because they weren't as focused because they were so good. But the 90 team was unreal and complete at every position. The had an inside threat, outside threat and VERY good defenders both on the ball and off the ball. I would actually say they had the best combination of defenders I've ever seen when you think of guarding the point, a wing player and someone down low. They were for sure better than the UK teams.

Hard to go against the UNC team with Jordan as a frosh. That team was LOADED

Always tough to compare teams from different eras and also tough when you have to leave teams out that didn't win a title.

I agree that the 1990 UNLV team would be very high. There were also rumors about possible point shaving the next year when Duke beat them. I hope that wasn't true. Duke played a hell of a game to avenge the championship blowout from the previous year.

A team like 1983 Houston isn't eligible but man, put them in a best-of-7 against NC State that year....Houston prob wins 4-1. I love the tourney so much but its way more about excitement than it is about finding the best team.

1984 UNC was also damn good....Jordan's last year. Kenny Smith as a freshman. Brad Daughtery, Sam Perkins, and a ton of role players to go along with them.

Another example is the Fab 5...came up a win short both years. I didn't like them at the time but I've come to respect them and how good they were.

I know I'm rambling and even leaving a lot of my thoughts out of it. My answer to the question.....I'm biased but I would go with 2009 UNC. So much NBA talent on that team and they just dominated every game in the dance. Tough question to answer....those Kentucky teams from the 90's were damn good too and they were among the first to really utilize the "3"....everyone could shoot from there and it made for tough defensive matchups.

I really do wish there was a way to have games like 2009 UNC vs 1990 UNLV etc. lol

was that a starting 5 or what?......may not have been "the best" but I think you can argue that they were the most fan friendly.....lewis must`ve been a beast of a recruiter back in the day....

Has to be a fight among all the UCLA teams...right...what about Lew Alcindor,Curtis Rowe, Sidney Wicks,Lyn Shackelford. forgot the year..68'69'...or another year.. Mike Warren,Lucious Allen,Lew,etc or the Walton years...

I know so little about those UCLA teams. I know they were loaded every year...definitely know about Alcindor and Walton.

They also got into the tourney every year b/c they dominated Pac 10 (or 8) and other teams had to win a conf tourney with more comp...look at 1974 Maryland. But I do know that UCLA was damn good so not trying to take too much away from them ;)

As for Houston, I was saying I think they'd have beaten State 4 games to 1. Drexler got into foul trouble on a couple really shitty calls in 1st half. But a great win of all time for NC State.

All of this is just a great conversation..

Without going to google and relying on a semi foggy memory bank....

I was watching UCLA every wknd as a kid, Dick Enberg called the games late at night... back in the days when they only took 1 tm from the conferences!

Besides Alcindor (Abdul-Jabbar) and Walton probably the best big men ever at that level... Alcindor (talent-wise) and Walton (fundamentally perfect) led to 6 straight years of incredible 'big-man' talent.

Joined by Sidney Wicks, Curtis Rowe, Larry Farmer, Keith Wilkes, Lynn Shackelford, Lucius Allen, Larry Hollifield.. and then came a group with Marques Johnson, David Meyers, Henry Bibby, Richard Washington

Sidney Wicks' game never really took off in nba, but was a helluva tough college player... and I don't think I've ever seen more fundamentally perfect (and intense) player than David Meyers, and Marques Johnson was nearly the same, except he looked so much smoother doing it....

again.. different eras I know.. many of you may never have seen any of these guys play... but you might know about their records.

UNLV had an incredible roster for a couple yrs, would have been interesting to see them against old Ucla... Fab 5 would've been blown away by the old Ucla tms I think

whatever.... it was a nice few moments of remembering for me... thx Old School :0008

I respect your opinion BOX, but for the team (NC STATE) who beat the team (UCLA) who had the 5-6 year championship run not to be even mentioned and listed 73rd makes the article ridiculous with no credibility or a complete lack of research by those who wrote it.......It's like leaving Bill Mazeroski off a list of greatest post season home runs or Franco Harris' catch just another playoff game touchdown.

anybody remember the 2-guard tandem Arkansas had a good while back?...I did a cursory google but didn`t find it...I remember following them a bit back when I wagered on college hoops but I can`t remember their names.....I believe they won a tourney game on a last second shot....

that`s sort of vague,but those two guys were really good together...this kind of shit bug s me......:lol:
