You would think at this point in the tourney they would let the players decide things a little bit more & not make every nit picking call .... lots of offensive fouls in KU/GT game and now guys fouling out right & left in Xavier/Duke??

Sun....certainly Xavier got the better of the officiating today.

i thought that Duke got some clean blocks that were called fouls and had some touch calls goes against them as well.

On the other hand, Reddick got knocked down twice in the lane and got nothing. i would not have called fouls on those as Reddick was out of control but Duke usually gets those calls.

The charge call on reddick ( i think) was baloney. he had left his feet before the defender stepped in. i know it is not the rule in NCAA, but xavier defend was right outside the cylinder. I hate when thet give defender the charge call that close to the basket. They should adopt the NBA rule on that.

Duke blows. They got crushed on offensive glass all game, even after Myles fouled out. I see UCONN having little problem beating this team. if they put duhon on Gordon, Rashad Anderson will light riddick up. Same for ewing.

people that hate duke will continue to believe in the ref conspiracy that duke gets all the calls.

loved watching duke in the early 90's. laettner, hurley, hill. however, as i have gotten older- the officiating does seem quite questionable at times. duke is typically more talented than their opponent and they do not need the help. i remember shane battier going over the back of arizona's woods a few years ago in the finals=no call because battier had four fouls already. my main gripe with officials in college (maybe why i get grumpy over duke) is the charging call has ruined the calls completely. far too many charges called in college. it rewards a player for jumping in front of another. suprised more guys aren't hurt because of it. one of the calls today on chalmers was pathetic- duhon was not even close to being set. i personally would have dropped a knee on those ribs. regardless, i didn't bet the game, but i was angered by some of the calls. bottom line was that xavier had their chances to win this game and did not. jmo

If you want whistle happy, watch the end of Tennessee-Baylor in women's hoops & you will see why the refs stole a game calling a foul with 0.03 left in the game when it was tied.

Mr Hockey it is even more clear in the women's game - ESPN would just die if Baylor beat Tenn. CBS always wants Duke too. I am not saying it is "intenional" but it is always there. I find it interesting how some think all the pro-Duke ref talk is silly. Well let me ask this - tell me a game that refs EVER took from Duke? There are also the refs like Valentine who want to be the man. X may not have even been playing today but for him. If you are a ref and we know your name there is obviously a problem.

Sun: Did you happen to catch the sequence at the end of the Bay-Ten game? If not I'm sure you could catch the replays. It was one of the worst calls ever imo & I had Tennessee. It reminds me of the call during last years playoffs between the Lakers & T-Wolves. The guy was whistled for a foul & he wasn't within 2 feet of the guy on a breakaway layup. It is amazing some of the calls that are made. You are right though, I can't recall one game the refs stole from Duke.

I think the refs, especially in the ACC bet all of the Duke games. I played one back when I was in college that I will never forget. I am pretty sure it was Spring semester of 98. Coach K was out with back problems. Clemson had a pretty good team and they were laying 4 to Duke at Clemson. Clemson was up by 3 and time was runing out. Duke had the ball. Clemson player steals the ball and slams it to but them up by 5 with .6 seconds remaining. A student standing on the side (there were all ready to rush the cront) barely stepped out and then back. Refs called a technical and Duke made both FT's. That Nickel lost was a lot of money when I was at school. I could not believe they called a T. I do not think he evem stepped with the peremeter of the court. I almost threw the remote through the TV.

Of course that loss doesnt go on Coach K's record, as being such a team guy and all he petitioned the NCAA to have those games assigned to Pete Gaudette.

Still waiting, I think this is year 20, for CBS or NCAA to take action for Coach K violating NCAA rules and the contract with CBS by not giving halftime interviews. Somehow I think if it was Bobby Knight an issue would be made of this, but it can't be evidence of Duke favortism, can it?

Saw the Tenn call. If it was a men's game there would be a giant uproar. That was ridiculous.

Oh yes there would be a huge uproar. My heart went out to the Baylor Bears. I played against them but felt they got robbed. The gambler in me was annoyed since I had Ten -5 for the game & -6.5 2nd H & I needed them to win by 3 if anything but a 2nd H ML covered my wagers. I still felt from just a fan of women's athletics, it was a horrible call that should not go unpunished. I heard a few of the male espn college hoop guys saying it was a bad call.

Here is a post I wrote on another forum describing the sequence:

The game is tied & Baylor is holding for a last second shot that would leave Tennessee with very few seconds left.

Tennessee forces a turnover & throws the ball down the court to a Lady Vol running after it & she misses the layup & as they are going for the rebound, the Vols recover it & miss another shot.

As the shot is missed, a Baylor player is jumping up for the ball with a Lady Vol & with 0.03 secs left they call a foul on Baylor.

I don't believe the refs stole the game away from Baylor with a ridiculous call. It was two players going after the ball & had contact by accident, there was no foul!

This is coming from someone who had Tennessee. I feel for the Baylor Bears.

Pretty much you had two women going after a rebound as the game is ending & tied & they both brushed each other & they call a foul on Baylor & Tennessee wins the game with 0.03 left on the foul line.
