I'm having a hard time getting a feel for this Sox team as they are playing more consistent then I'm used to and much of the blame can be placed on Ozzie. I didn't like the hire, but he's done a great job hiding his defensive and bullpen weaknesses.
Yankee batters have had a tough time against Buerhle over his career batting .198 against him while Buerhle's ERA is just over 3. In their post-Japan swoon, New York bats have all struggled to hit over .250 with the team average being .217 (.203 against lefties)
The Sox face a rookie which is a concern, but they are batting .305 against lefties, showed the patience against Gonzalez the other night (another trait that I'm not used to) and will allow Graman to rattle himself. The Sox new aggressive baserunning strategy (Anyone else see Thomas get thrown out stealing second on a Santiago throw that skipped twice?) should yield some dividends today as it made the Yankee defense look like a Double-A team in their last series. The fielders know now that they've got to get rid of the ball and hopefully that will cause some errors. Plus, there's more than a few in the clubhouse that would like to show the Big Hurt how important he is to this team by going on a little run with him on the pine.
Go Sox!!
