Tomorrow's "bullpen day" for the Sox with Cotts starting and not being asked to go more than 3 innings, so Buerhle's going to be asked to stay in this game even if he struggles. He shut down the Twins, but they faced him last Sunday and should have a better read. The Metrodome has been Buerhle's nemisis, not that he's pitched that terribly, but some of the worst losses of his career have been in this park.

Mags is still questionable, but the Sox bats have been hot in the short term and Silva was pounded by them last Sunday. I hate laying this much juice on a total, but it appears to be justified

Short Take: Buehrle and big blasts combine to bump Twins
Judging by the attitude of many soldiers in the Sox Army this week, you would have thought the Chicago White Sox were doomed to failure. Surely, we couldn't beat the Twins 2 games in a row on their home shag carpet, er, turf. Surely after a 10 run outburst last night, the Sox were destined to put up 1 or 2 runs and spend the rest of the evening putting on yet another corpseball display in front of the ice-cream bloated Minnesota faithful. Surely, after 2 great starts in a row, Mark Buehrle was destined for a bad outing. Well, stop all the talk right there (and stop calling your humble correspondent Shirley), because the Sox did it again tonight with an 8-2 pasting of the injury-decimated Twins and their supposed "ace" Carlos Silva, who has been shelled by the Sox in his past 2 starts.

The Sox struck first in the second inning, with the offense using a little bit of smallball and a whole lotta take-advantage-of-lousy-defenseball. Paul Konerko, who all of a sudden seems to look like first-half-of-2002 Paulie rather than first-half-of-2003 Paulie, led off the inning with a single. The suddenly surging Joe Crede belts a double to move Konerko to 3rd, and then Sandy Alomar reaches on an error, plating both runners. The Sox offense immediately reloads, as Juan Uribe and Timo Perez hit back-to-back singles. Magglio Ordonez follows with what looks like a sure double play ball, but gets a gift from Jose Offerman when he makes a rotten throw to first. In the ensuing chaos, Uribe and Alomar score giving the Sox a quick 4-run lead. The Sox padded the lead using the longball, with Timo Perez and Jose Valentin both blasting 2-run jacks high and deep to right field, well over the black Hefty baggies and unused seats. Is the Sox offense finally firing on all cylinders? Even with Frank Thomas sidelined with the stomach flu (possibly from eating a Metrodome hot dog), their display of power was downright impressive.

Bolstered by the mighty Sox bats just like he was on Sunday, Mark Buehrle turns in his second superb start against the Twins in a row, working 7 strong innings and fanning 8. If not for Michael Cuddyer, he would have had a shutout. Shingo Takatsu wears his "Mr Zero" moniker well, working 2 scoreless innings in relief.

The third game of the series is tomorrow night at 6:05 CDT. Every female Sox fan's dream, Neal Cotts, gets his shot at the 5th starter's spot against Brad Radke .

There may be more White Sox fans on this board than I know in real life.

Thanks for the props, IE. I thought that you wrote that wrap-up, until I saw that the author wrote "Every female Sox fan's dream, Neal Cotts, gets his shot at the 5th starter's spot against Brad Radke" and I knew that it couldn't be you. Jon Garland is much hotter :)
