Gutty win for the Sox on Wednesday. Garland to the hill tonight. ERA is over 7 against the Tigers since 2000, but the only guy left on the Tigers that has any real work against him is Higginson.

Outfielder Joe Borchard, one of the top prospects of the Chicago White Sox, is back in the major leagues.

The White Sox on Friday called up Borchard from Charlotte of the Class AAA International League and placed infielder-outfielder Willie Harris on the 15-day disabled list with a mild separation of his right shoulder.

A first-round draft in 2000, Borchard was a football and baseball star at Stanford and helped the Cardinal advance to the 1999 College World Series.


The 24-year-old made his major league debut on September 2 and homered in his second big league at-bat off Corey Thurman of Toronto. He hit .222 in 16 games during his September call-up.

Borchard was hitting .224 with three homers and 20 RBI in 34 games at Charlotte.

Harris was batting .162 in 14 games with the White Sox.
