Had a little extra time this morning and noted the following stats for the Sox's usual starting lineup (CF not included as no one has played their that long)

Player/2003 BA/2003 BA v. R/ 2000-2002 BA/2000-2002 BA v. R
Ordonez/.283/.269/.313/.313
Jimenez/.283/.275/.262/.266
Lee/.254/.268/.279/.277
Thomas /.253/.214/.288/.286
Valentin/.226/.254/.261/.270
Crede/.224/.250/.277/.275
Konerko/.218/.165/.294/.295
Olivo/.261/.234/na/na

The core of the White Sox is Ordonez,Lee,Thomas,Valentin and Konerko and they are struggling significantly compared to how they have performed over their careers. They rank at 25th and below in every major offensive category. They've got an ace and a closer that have both been brutal. And yet they're still hovering around .500.

Losing the Tiger series does more for the short-term prospects of this club than winning it and being camped up in their hotel rooms for the next 4 days due to SARS restrictions might be everything that the club needs. Feeling a run is just ahead for the bats and they were able to chase Hendricksen in their game last week.

As bad as Buerhle has been recently, one of the reasons that the Sox were able to come back against Toronto in his last start was his gutty performance in the 5th and 6th inning after getting shelled. It's the best I've seen him pitch in at least a month and hopefully he'll turn it around.

Buerhle +116 1 unit

bbc, always follow your writeups on the sox b/c of your insight into the team, but i have to say i disagree today. buehrle has clearly lost something this year. his location is not what it was last year and his offspeed stuff is not getting across the plate period. you're also probably looking at 3 innings or more of the sox bp today. taking a look at hendrickson, take away his first start of the season vs the yankees and a day game start in arlington, and his numbers for the year are 3.71 era, 1.14 whip. given toronto's offensive numbers in the skydome, and the white sox lack of o, just see the blue jays as a bargain today @ -128.

Agree wholeheartedly on Buerhle, but he's the same pitcher as last year and I was impressed with him in his last time out with key holds.

Also noticed Hendricksen's coming alive lately the last time that the Sox played them. But he's on record this week in Toronto papers saying that the reason he's been successful is his willingness to go inside. Have a feeling some of the Sox will be turning on him tonight.

No stats will back a play on the Sox tonight, only a feeling, but I'm not that confident in the pick.
