Season Record 8-8 -0.43 units

White Sox (Wright) -105 1 unit

The White Sox struggled last year against the better teams in the league, but most teams in the league struggle against the Yankees, but they have done a better job this year, only looking outmatched in their 6 games with the Angels. Torre has called up Mike Thurman who has a career 5.04 ERA in 93 appearances with the Expos and a 4.18 ERA with Columbus. Wright is starting to come into his own. If you throw out the 8 runs in 2 2/3 innings against Anaheim, he has a 3.00 ERA in his last 5 starts against the Mariners, A?s, Rangers and Red Sox.

The big reason I like the Sox today is that this series means so much more to them. Compare Manuel moving up Buerhle?s start from Saturday to Friday so he can face Clemens on Wednesday to Torre calling up Thurman because he doesn?t want a starter to go on a short rest. The Yankees have bigger fish to fry and the White Sox don?t. Also, due to Memorial Day, half-price Monday games, and the Yankees in town, Comiskey is expected to have a full house. This is huge news as sports talk in this town has been on the subject of why the White Sox can?t draw for the better part of 5 years. The White Sox play well when they get support (Yankees, Cleveland series in 2000; Cubs series last two years) and they will have a playoff intensity tonight. Packed houses are common place for the Yankees who are in the first game back from their big series with the Red Sox.

Now if I could just figure out why Jack has 5 units on the Yanks, I?d feel much better about this pick.

IE.

I don't even think of the run line. Just like to have the team that I'm betting on have the same motivation as mine. But the numbers don't lie.

That said, I think the White Sox will beat the Yank soundly tonight. But I'd rather have the insurance of the 1 run than the extra .65 units

I like the Sox also here. NYY is coming off a big series vs Boston, and their game went fairly late last night. I'm sure they got into Chicago probably 3 or 4 in the am this morning, while the Sox played an afternoon home game.
