NO BOOMER THIS TIME: If David Wells was hoping for some payback against the Blue Jays for last Wednesday's 9-6 loss, it will have to wait. The Chicago White Sox left-hander, who continues to be the main course on the trade menu these days, was scratched from his scheduled start today with a strained left groin. Wells injured the groin against Toronto last Wednesday. In his place the Sox will start right-hander Jon Garland. Garland came on in relief against the Jays last Wednesday giving up one run in 11/3 innings. Garland entered the game riding a streak of five shutout innings.
