If there was such thing as a blame pie, who deserves the biggest slice in MLB?? Owners, players, agents, the players Union? Who? I've studied labor economics & few things rival the complexity of MLB' s labor situation. If there wasn't so many of us junkies being affected it would nearly be comical. From the reserve clause through Curt Flood right to present day the labor situation is a complete abortion.
Players minimum salaries are now approximately 250, 000 annually, average salary over 2 million per year. Hardly numbers worth striking over.
Owners almost seem worse, in actuality having to rescue themselves from who else but themselves. On all accounts Texas paid A ROD in excess of 70 million more than anyone else was willing! Why? King George is allowed year after year to hand pick himself a Clemens here or a justice there just in time to make the August playoff run. This year Mondesi & Weaver are just the beginning. Competitive balance without any doubt is gone. The sham in Miami several years ago was shameful, that BlockBuster scum is no worse than the jokers running Enron or world com. For years there has been MLB without a commissioner, suddenly BUD is appointed. How is Selig a commissioner? He is a owner! By definition a commissioner can't possibly be a owner, only in MLB.
And lastly you have the infamous agents & players Association. Here is a collection of talentless "pilot fish" if ever there was one. You know those Leach like little fish tha at hang around the big sharks & pick up the scraps. Marvin Miller a had a gripe, the reserve clause was indeed unconstitutional. I just don't see Donald Feher having all that much to be bitching about. Then again when dealing with these owners, who wouldn't push for more? Millions are thrown at complete clowns like Greg Vaughn and the likes every season.
Anyway just curious what all you folks think.
