Agreed... Although, unlike most of you, I think Dicky V just sucks up to whatever campus he is on, and since he is in Durham so much, everyone thinks he loves Duke. Everytime that he comes to Lawrence, he says the Jayhawks have the best fans in America (he had a book signing here a year ago and said that like 1,000 times). He also said Lawrence was his favorite place to watch a game. He also gave a "standing O" to Collison a couple years ago...

I think he just pulls this wherever he goes...

More from Raftery:

"O'Bryant with the little tear-drop!"

You are obviously young there. He has done this forever.

Rafterry has gooten old to me. He is pretty much a paody of himself most of the time.

That said, he is still better than most of the clowns. He actually occasionally discusses startegy. Packer is a hateful SOB, but knows his stuff and I can deal with him. Vitale is a joke.

I guess I'm alone here. Rafferty gets on my nerves. Why can't these announcers just announce the game and quit trying to be bigger than the game itself.

gus taylor makes every made shot sound like the game winner.
he's more no nonsense than some of the others but he gets very excitable.

i just hope those putz nantz and packer STFU from now on about the MVC getting 4 bids and how their conference RPI was so high. Especially after Nantz admitted never watching an MVC game.

too bad Missouri State didnt make the dance..they deserved a bid IMO. i was wrong about air farce being ok in the dance. they laid an egg

Raftery is one of my favorites.

I'll never forget watching the Pitt game where Jerome Lane broke the glass and he said, "SEND IT IN, JEROME!!"

He also had some great play on names with the UK team that had McCarty, Pope, and Muhammed. I remember "Take it to the altar, WALTER!" He had a few other funny ones referring to religion and their names, but I can't remember them.

I've loved Raftery for years. The guy has got a great and unique sense of humor and makes it really fun to watch.

It pisses me off, b/c he has such a cool 'signature' thats so simple, starting every game saying a team is "Man To Man", and half the time the other announcer won't shut up to let him get it in. WTF?

"Take it to the tin, big fella"
"Tickle the twine"
"The last time I saw a guy run that fast was when the waiter put the check down in front of you, Verne"
"The Hoyas...Verne Lundquist...MAN TO MAN"

I also like how he makes everything so sexual. Its awesome.

"With the KISS"
"With a little SMOOCHER"
"Pick up the lingerie and rise...to ECSTASY"

Def. one of my favorites. I love his voice and how he changes tone and his wit.

I wish I could think of more...

He's the best!
He's entertaining, which is what college basketball is all about. Some announcers act as if someone's life lie in the balance of the outcome of a game. Bill keeps it light and fun. . . as it should be.

Raftery must despise doing Syracuse games...esp. when they win the tip...

He's always like, "Syracuse, Sean McDonough, starts in a zone.....with MAN TO MAN PRINCIPLES"

LOL.

"Shuffle Shuffle Shuffle" after someone walked.

I also forgot about the "nickel dimer, Sean" on a ticky-tack call.

I also like when he calls a guy's feet puppies. "Squares up, sets the puppies and shoots"
