or tinnitus? I spontaneously developed it in my left ear Thursday morning at 0215. I was not exposed to any loud noise or ear trauma, I'm not on any medication, I'm not having any allergy problems, I'm not having an earache, I haven't had any unusual or different food in my diet, and I'm pretty sure (I hope) that I don't have a brain tumor. Those are all the causes I can think of?

I know some people suffer with this for years.

I have had some hearing loss in the last year; mainly high pitched noises, but I just attributed that to age.

If you know of anything else that may have caused this, or if u have personal experience, let's hear it. Thanks.

it might go away.

a lot of people with hearing loss hear the ringing and as soon as they get hearing aids they don't notice the ringing anymore.

i've had it on and off my whole life but not loud and only when it's dead quiet. maybe that's why i always sleep with the tv on

thought of that too, but I think balance issues go along with that too, but I haven't looked it up.

I forgot you used to sell hearing aids!

This is LOUD, constant, and just seems to be in my left ear.

you have a cold or something? maybe you have some fluid in your middle ear. they can easily tell by looking in there with an otoscope. get it checked at work.

sorry to hear that. i've had meniere's for about 18 yrs. now. wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy(well, maybe). anyway, if you don't have any dizzies hopefully it will go away soon. aspirin, allergies(they are terrible here in tx. right now) and many other things could be the culprit. good luck. you can go to menieres.org and enter ringing in ear and probably bring up a ton of threads on it. good luck.

Ive always heard that when someone tries crack for the very first time they hear a ringing noise and feel like they never have before, then it goes away..and the rest of their life is wasted chasing that ringing noise and that great sensation again....thats why they are always looking to get high....hope this isnt the situation here.

Detox from xanax has been known to cause ear ringing/buzzing along with the more common side-effects including sweating, sleeplessness and loss of appetite. Of course, I would guess that you haven't just kicked an alprazolam habit.

had a few bouts of vertigo when i was younger and still playing sports....i was taking stuff to get me "up" for games and it affected my inner ear...

probably the sickest i`ve ever been in my life...couldn`t turn my head...if i did,it took my focus a few seconds to catch up to where my eyes were, and the result was projectile vomiting...you can`t move your head without getting so nauseated you want to die... ......

doctor gave me a "medrol dosepak"(prednisone) and it worked like a charm...several times...haven`t had a recurrence in over 15 years...

Timely topic for me as the ringing in my ears started back in November with a bout of what you are describing, weasel.
Doc gave me the same meds; I only had the projectile vomiting for a day and the dizziness went away after a couple of days.
Finally got fed up the 1st of this month and my doc referred me to the audiologists. They put me through a battery of tests, including an MRI of my head and bloodwork.
They didn't find anything and I'm going back to the audiologists next week to begin trying some hearing aids to see if they will help any. I hope they do; the ringing isn't debilitating, but its very annoying at times.
The 1st thing the audiologist told me when I met him is that not much is known about tinnitus and there is no known cure for it....
