Or as the rednecks of Alabama call today, Robert E Lee's Birthday. Amazing how those fell on the same day. My dad is a huge racist, even yells the n word at the tv. I tell him how stupid it makes him look, but then he just cusses at me, too. He works today out of spite. What can you expect from some raised in Cullman, AL.

You know Jack, I will say that is one of the main things I like about this forum, race is never an issue. Thanks for keeping it that way.

who has the day off today?

I decided to call in say I was coming in late today. Then I decided no need to call myself.

Took the walk downstairs to my office and ready for work. The life of a gambler has it's good points. :grins:

Happy BTK Day everyone.

Hey Blue,

I was born and bred in the big salty ham (aka Birmingham) and I never refered to MLK day as REL day. The only people who did in my school were outcasts and alsoands. Most of the time the rebel flag waving individuals and the Jiffy Lube technicians are one in the same. Take it easy when talking about an entire group.

I've coached an AAU basketball team for the last 5 years (Travis Walton, Mich. State is my only famous one). Most of my kids were black with a few white ones and myself (hence the name White Shadow). Anyway, my grandma (94 years old) sees me with all my kids and later whispers to me "those boys are colored". My response......"No grandma, I'm pretty sure they were born that way."

Anyway, happy MLK day to all......and yes, I work for the State of Ohio and have the day off.

Blazer, glad you read the entire post......not. I said the REDNECKS of Alabama called it that. I included my father in that group because he is a REDNECK because of his close-minded ideas and prejudices.

I am glad you were born and bred in Bham, I was raised in Florence, AL. Nice to meet ya. I hope you were not including yourself in the REDNECK group because you were born and or bred there. If you are a Redneck and and have the same idiotic ideas, prejudices, and principles, I am glad I offended you and your group. Prejudice people make me sick.

I don't think you are a REDNECK because you are from Alabama. I have lived here 31 years and am definitely NOT one. Cullman is WELL KNOWN as one of the most racist communities in the south. That is why I referred to my Father being raised there. (FYI in the 40's and 50's no less)

So were you being combative toward me or just argumentative in general. Or did you really just misread my post?

Jack - I feel the same way about the market. On the days where I can really kick back and play around, the market is always closed it seems.

Same story here as a few others. Owning your own business combined with working from home makes these holidays a little less exciting unless there is some travel involved.

Blue,

I don't think a post that starts with "I was born in the big salty ham" can be combative.

I know more about Cullman than I should. I know that they have the highest percentage of admitted KKK members (Cullman County). Cullman County also has the highest number of HIV cases in the great state of Alabama. If I had a dollar for every time I have passed the Hallmark Mansion on 65 I would be able to play in Agent's Fantasy Golf League for free.

I was not attacking you. Honestly, I may be a bit sensitive. The overall stereotyping of people truly hits a nerve with me. The ideology of "Everyone from Alabama is a Redneck", "All Japanese are evil and cruel", or "Those Nigerians that play for Frank Beamer are animals" sickens me.

I felt that you were labeling everyone (including your racist father) as a redneck.

I apologize if that was not the case. I can see how you meant it otherwise.

Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
