Cant wait for the Spinmaster to tell us why its completely false. That he played out 2006 season in his fantastyland world & USC created 743 turnover & gave out only 5 GIFT TO's, cause that is what USC does & USC wins the BCS champoinship game 74-12.

The reasoning is sound and Tex should be number one until they lose...Not sure about Florida @ #2, Okie @ #7, and I personally put SC @ 5 and I think WV should be a little higher and no ND in the top 10?...I think they are going to be a very good team next season and personally I think they should be able to roll with that schedule

Oklahoma is the most overhyped right now by everyone. Bomar is not good. They lose the whole O-Line, which was already bad, and replace them with guys who couldn't beat those guys out. Peterson will be healthy and motivated, and teh defense should be better. The Big 12 still will be down, and they have a favorable schedule so they are the No 2 team in the big 12 South. They could fluke into the Top 10 but I tend to doubt it. They wont even win their opener.

If Texas is ranked No. 1 in any preseason poll, then Oklahoma is not the most overhyped; Texas is. I've seen a lot of preseason rankings so far, but this one is the most laughable. Simply having Texas at No. 1 and WVA at No. 10 assures this poll of that.

Just like other teams in the past, I just don't understand the "Texas is No. 1 until they are beaten" mentality. It's a different year.

Your right it's a different year but you can't name another team in the country that currently has Texas' win streak, and thats why Texas is #1...and everyone knows they're not going to roll the table this year just like SC...I'm telling you ND goes undefeated this season (partly due to their once again misleading tough schedule) and ND isn't even listed in their top 10...I'm not putting too much stock in these rankings anyways

I believe Texas is Numero Uno until/if they lose. Hard to swallow as an SC fa, but my sentiments.

It is nice to hear this take from a Trojan fan, particularly since that was the logic applied to USC's status last year.

Preseason polls are worthless. I've seen all sorts of different ones with Ohio State, Texas, West Virginia, Florida, USC and Notre Dame as #1. Texas will likely lose on 9/9/06 and that will settle that. :)

hmm did you say that on 9/10/05 too? I am very surprised on all the love for OSU with the entire defense gone and a top offensive weopan.

But I do agree such pols are worthless.

Yes, I did say that back then. Didn't work out due to Ryan Hambys stone hands, but oh well. Great game though.

As for the other thing, aren't OSU fans and writers and pundits allowed to go with what USC, Texas and other top schools get? That is, 'sure they lose a lot but they have 4 and 5 star replacements to fill in.'

Losing the juniors Youboty and Whitner from the secondary probably hurts them as much as the linebackers.

Only two returning defensive starters will definitely make it interesting.

Tressel needs to keep the offense wide open like he did at the end of the last two seasons because I don't think Tressel-ball will work too well this year.

Huge losses for OSU...I was hoping Whitner would come back to lead the defense..Youboty was a little over-rated in my book and leaving early will hurt him...not worried about the LBs because OSU always has talent there...but the secondary has me little worried...were looking at O'Neil, Jenkins, Harley and Mitchell...a really young secondary but all these kids are supposely pretty talented and they all have speed but we'll see OSU should be able to outscore a lot of teams next season

then thanks so much for starting the thread??

anyway, the most insightful ranking I see in that poll is Florida at #2. They will play a BCS game, possibly the national title game. Only thing that worries me is going to Georgia and FSU, but both are programs that could easily be in down years. Other tough games will be winnable at home for the Gators.

Texas will be good, but probably not BCS calibur w/o their $$ man. When they lose 3 games this season, maybe people will start to realize just how good USC has been the last 3 seasons, and how hard it is to maintain that kind of streak from season to season to season

IMO, there is no way Texas can lose 3 games this next year. Possibly two if things go wrong. No matter who that team lost personnel wise, they are still top tier of the Big 12.

top tier of the big 12 can EASILY lose 3 games. W/o the miracle man, who singlehandedly won games at OSU, OKST, A&M, and the rose bowl, texas woulda lost 4 THIS YEAR. woulda coulda shoulda, but next year he WILL be gone.

I'm a huge Sooner fan, and the day they lose there third game, i'll pull this thread up and eat every bit of crow from what I said, but until then, we'll wait and see.

Derek is showing his ignorance.

There are only 2 games they can lose even if I was playing quarterback on that schedule.

Derek is a f*cking idiot, but that's not news.

I wont stoop to either of your levels and exchange insults. When both of you get respect for yourselves, then maybe you can respect others, but not before then. Keep taking out your insecurities on people you dont even know weirdos......

About the football, riddle me this you "two stooges" of madjacks. Without Vince Young, how many games would Texas have won in 2005? Honest answer, all differences aside. Sun Tzu, I doubt you will admit they would have even lost 1 because you are a homer, but Kosar, even someone of your limited intelligence, and being an OSU fan, will admit that they would not have beaten USC or OSU w/o Young. Period.

From someone WITHOUT the Texas blinders on, I can honestly say they could lose the OSU game, AT OKLAHOMA, and a bowl game. That theory is NOT ridiculous, and anyone who is not a homer or jackass would admit its possible.

But HEY I guess that theory is freakin LUDICROUS huh? Lets look at those opponents more carefully

OSU= a team they beat by 2 points WITH VINCE YOUNG
OKLA= a team they beat for the first time in HOW LONG?? also WITH vince young
Rose Bowl=game where they trailed by 2 scores with 5 minutes left, and trailed with less than 60 seconds left!! ALSO thanks to VY

Yup, totally UNTHINKABLE that they could lose in similar matchups this season. Your stupidity speaks for itself
