Just a question that popped into my head as I ran down the list of topics. I really do not have one player to me that really stands out. But a guy like an Omar Vizquel comes to mind. Most people think all he is, is a Gold glove shortstop but he does a lot with the bat that goes unoticed that does not get into a box score.

I'll nominate a couple of guys from the left coast.

Little David Eckstein of Anaheim. He may not be the Angels' MVP this season, but undoubtedly he is the team's sparkplug. And this guy is a true anamoly. Four of his 5 homers have been grand slams, and he's been hit by a pitch an amazing 20 times! A scrappy player who constantly hustles.

The Dodgers' Eric Gagne. Where did this guy come from? He's converted 37 of 39 save opportunities. 74 K's in 55 innings. Opponents hitting a measly .083 with runners in scoring position. MUST be the goggles. :D

Brian Giles

This guy does it all batting in a AAA lineup.

He's a .300 hitter, slugs .600, gets on base at a .400 plus clip, OPS over .1000, 100 RBI, nearly 100 walks a season, and he'll steal you a few bases from time to time. It's not like he's baseballs best kept secret, but I think that this guy is a top 5 player. There are only a few guys I would rather have on my team than Giles. Put him on a contending team and his numbers would be even better.

I agree on Giles but I'd put Mike Sweeney up there also and maybe Garrett Anderson. For starting pitchers I'd say Jamie Moyer and Roy Halladay.

This is a good thread. Hard to deny that Giles is the man. How many times has he beat you when you play against Pitt? Anderson IS underappreciated, yet he WAS voted to All-Star team. But, I agree, doesn't get near the acclaim he deserves. You have to watch this guy day in and day out to see how clutch he is. Hard to argue with all names mentioned so far.
