Hudson Valley area.....NY
Cie,
Just spent 5 months in austin....came home to NY last week....weather was unreal....never to hot or to cold....this winter it was in the 50's,60's,70's and 80's everyday....one day of frost but the next morning it was in the 50's again...food..wow

Barb-que was spectacular. So many places to get real barb-que...tex-mex or what ever you call it...outstanding...great Mexican food....so many different places to get hamburgers that aren't Micky d's,Burger Kings or Wendys....local places and some different franchises...like 5 Guys, My T-Fine,etc.... a lot of steak places esp. in the downtown area....so many healthy places to eat veggies, wraps,etc....sushi is big...all over...every supermarket has there own sushi bar...many Thai,Vietnam places..Chinese places all over... but terrible...been to about 4 or 5 and didn't like anyone of them....at least compared to the ones in NY...
Pizza....average.....didn't have one pie that I liked....there was a place called Yagi's near where I lived...its advertized as NY style pizza...buy by the slice,etc....he swears his pizza is the same in Brooklyn....I told him he has been away from NY to long....Texans put 10 different things on top of their pizza's.....7 different veggies....3 types of cheese's..my wife and kids do the same....what happened to one big pie with just mozzarella...make 8 big slices...a little oil in the middle with a nice crust...2nd day back in NY had a nice pie at my local pizzeria. That is real pizza....
Italian food...terrible ...maybe downtown Austin has a place but they get an F....tomato sauce's were bitter, over seasoned,etc...
Two days before I left Austin the newspaper's sunday edition had an on line poll of best places to eat..{ think that's what you were referring too}.Someone here posted it here in MJ's.. I didn't get a chance to respond....Olive garden ranked No 1 for Italian food...forgot the others but I was laughing reading them...Been home over a week...miss my barb-q already but had a big plate of pasta and meatballs my 1st day back......
Lost 31 pounds in 5 months in Texas...did change my diet habits...but ran and walked about 15-20 miles a day and gave up Pepsi.....I was addicted to Pepsi....I would drink a 2-liter Pepsi a day.....now I need to discipline myself from the veal parmigiano hero, calzones and stromboli's.....
Can you send me the original text about the survey...

dont know if you paid any attention to it or not, or saw it advertised.. there was the 100,000 Jobs Mission had a big career fair for veterans at the dallas convention center 2 weeks ago. Coulda definitely used a night out drinking to ease the stresses.

I'm in an 'underground' pop-op style dinner club. They are expanding to Austin. I'll rep u the info.

I love the popup restaurants! Went to one last weekend with 5 of the top ramen/Japanese chefs in the US ... was awesome :0074

I am also a big follower of the food trucks ... just follow them on Twitter to find out where they are each day ... have over 100 now in Nashville
