So. Cal
i saw that au defense and saw them have trouble with the pass.......vs va tech

that defense got little pressure on the qb
that defense is undersized
that defense has problems in the backfield

sc and utah would throw on them all day long

I will give USC their props, played a great game tonight. We will never know who the best team is with this bcs bullshit. However, if you want to talk conferences, Pac 10 is weak every year. They are 3-4 teams deep at the most. I'm not being biased here when I rank the conferences. I'm a Syracuse fan. Hell, we suck every year along with the Big East. The best conferences in college football are:

SEC
Big 12
Big 10
ACC with the addition of their teams are going to be very competitive.
Pac 10.

LOL......the difference is.....USC PLAYED TO WIN the entire game. This was ferociousness I did not see in Auburn last nite. In the 2H Auburn played NOT TO LOSE. That is what separates #1 from #2.

Cavy1, How can you say VTech should be ahead of Auburn. They got owned by Auburn in their bowl game. A couple of bullshit tds by VTech in the 4th quarter. As for Utah, get real! Utah played NOBODY this year!!!!
You obviously bet on Auburn and lost, that is why you don't think Auburn deserves to be number 2.

You say Utah played nobody, but like Donald Rumsfeld said, you are given the schedule you work with. Auburn's non-conference was weak (weaker than OU's as a matter of fact), and that hurt them big time with the computer rankings.

As for the Sugar Bowl, Tech had two chances to be ahead at the half or at least be close (if Auburn had scored TDs instead of converting FGs). It could've been 10-9 for crying out loud!

GO BACK AND LOOK AT UTAH'S SCHEDULE AND RESULTS. THEY THOROUGHLY DOMINATED EVERY SINGLE OPPONENT. NOT ONE GAME WAS CLOSE. THEY CONFOUNDED EVERYONE WITH THEIR SPREAD OFFENSE AND POUNDED THEIR FOES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL.

I know who they played! I don't really care, they play in the Mountain West conference. The only team of caliber they played was Texas A&M and you saw what Tennessee did to A&M.

What I see on Utah's schedule is alot of bad opponents who also scored alot of points. Their offense is solid, but not sold on the defense if they played a real team. In a one game match with timne to prepare they might do well against the big boys. But they would never survive a regular season in the big leagues. They dont have enough depth and they have holes that would get exposed by better coaches and talent.

Totally agree Sun, reminds me of Marshall a few years back when they were griping about not being in a big bowl game.

i'm looking at the coaches' poll and can't find a team that utah beat and i only see one they beat in the AP (#25 pitt). these guys would have gotten plastered if they had been in a real conference. here is where utah would be in other conferences.

sec west--3rd or 4th
sec east 4th or 5th
big 10--4th or 5th
big 12 north--maybe 1st
big 12 south--4th
big east--winner (wow)
acc--4th or 5th
pac 10--3rd or 4th
coference usa--a distant second

this team was lucky to make it to the bcs and was given a free pass by playing pitt. that was the worst collection of talent at a bcs game EVER. i welcome urban to the sec. we will put an end to his legend.

Don't get me wrong. Of course Utah didn't play as good a schedule, and the MWC is no SEC. I'm not that unrealistic. But you have to give them their due as a result of their performance this yr.

Five times the Utes gave up 28 or more pts. But in three of those instances it wasn't because they couldn't play defense. They just let up because they'd built up such large leads during the course of the game:

vs. Wyoming 45-28 final -- Utes up 38-7 at one pt, and Wyo scores last 2 TDs of the game in 4Q garbage time.

vs. Colorado St. 63-31 final -- Rams score 21 pts in 4Q. Utes once had a huge 56-10 lead.

vs. UNLV 63-28 final -- Utah up 42-14 at the end of the 1H.

But one game I found most telling of all. When they were 4-0 early in the season and fell behind 0-14 to Air Force, the Utes overcame their sluggish start and proceeded to score five unanswered TDs. Final score 49-35.

What Tennessee did to Texas A&M was almost as embarrasing as Oklahoma's loss to USC (Sooners stunk it up in a national championship game).

But are you talking about the same A&M team which Utah beat 41-21? BTW Utah led 34-7 in the 3Q.

Are you talking about the same A&M team which gave Oklahoma all they could handle only to lose 35-42? A&M led the Sooners 28-21 at the half.

Are you talking about the same A&M team which held three opponents to six or fewer points?

Finally, are you talking about the same Texas A&M team who lost four regular season games, but three of their four losses were to BCS teams Oklahoma, in-state rival Texas and the undefeated Utah Utes?

I was there at the Sugar Bowl, and even the Virginia Tech fans that I spoke too were very impressed with us. I think that Tommy got a little conservative in the second half, but also there were a couple of turnovers by Auburn.

I didn't think Virginia Tech was exactly chopped liver, and it surprises me that so many people thought we should/would win by 30 points. They are the # 8 team in the country, with the # 5 scoring defense and have played many very good teams this year, and getting a win is all that matters.

I also want to say what great fans Virginia Tech had. I had tons of fans after the game congratulate me, and didn't see any bad intentions by either side during or after. I wish all of the games were like this, but there will always be LSU fan there to threaten you and your family before or after the game.

It seems that given yesterdays sterling effort by the sooners, Auburn would have to be the automatic choice at #2. However, I don't think it would have mattered who played in that game yesterday, as USC would have rolled over the top of them, Auburn included.
