On the course!
Why, whenever a black football player is in the news, do they interview this clown?

Now, I only saw the last part of his ESPN interview, but the kid interviewing him was tossing some nice softballs for him.

Would it be too much trouble for "Big Jim" to ever say anything bad about a "brother"? If this kid (Williams) wants to quit playing ball so he can smoke dope, swell I guess?

How about saying the guys a nut job? How about saying he needs to grow up? No, let's defend him.

Shitting on the Dolphins by dropping this bomb this close to camp? "Not his problem. He has to do what's best for him."

.....and going to Japan to spend your fortune on weed is what's best?

Whatever.

More appropriate would be to interview Jim Brown every time a spousal abuse case makes the headlines. He is indeed an expert on that.

Good point why ask him. Ask someone like Berry Sanders. At least I think you may get a good answer.

Probably the same reason they interview Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton when some poor black person is being persecuted.

Like many ex-football players, Brown surely feels taken advantage of by the NFL. The NFL dream is that you make millions, get beautiful women and become a star, then ride happily off into early retirement. The reality is that you enjoy a short career with the severe cost of having nothing to do with your life at the age of 30 and the added bonus of terrible health the rest of your life.

When Brown sees an intelligent, worldly (though admittedly short on accountability) person like Ricky Williams walk away to pursue happiness over wealth while improving his lifelong physical condition, of course he's going to support it. He speaks from a unique position because he knows what the money and stardom that come from an NFL career are worth in the long run. NFL fans who only dream of playing the sport for a living are obviously going to have a different view.

To the question of why the media seeks his opinion, there are two answers. One, he gives controversial answers that make headlines. Two, he has a unique point of view in having spent his life as an NFL star, actor and leader of a charitable organization (Amer-I-Can). Think about it: Who else has seen the world through eyes similar to Ricky Williams' (star NFL running back, frustrated with the "system", etc.)?

That said, Williams really makes me mad. I am very anti-establishment so I sort of preternaturally sympathize with the guy who bucks the system. What Williams did, however, lets down so many folks who have tried to help him that it is really hard to be sympathetic to him. I do wish Williams all the best.

Hopefully you are joking Nick.

The best thing that ever happened to Jim Brown was the NFL. Without it, he would have been on the streets of the ghetto in a gang long ago. Probably dead. Taken advantage of? Give me a break.

with the severe cost of having nothing to do with your life at the age of 30

Nothing to do with your life at the age of 30? Give me a break. Only the losers, who were losers before entering the NFL, won't have anything to do with their lives after the age of 30.

Jim Brown is a radical, wife-beating, liberal, wreckless, self-serving, lawless, piece of shit.

And to think all of this time I thought beantownjim was the idiot :moon:

homedog,

You just don't have a very good understanding of life. You've obviously never had a special talent at anything that people would want to take advantage of.

I don't ever recall seeing anything on Jim Brown being chained to his locker after games and not being allowed to leave the stadium. "Being taken advantage of." give me a break. What was this guy going to do if he couldn't run with a pigskin? It sure wouldn't be all of the women he had, because it was Jim Brown the football player that got those........This won't be the last time you will see something like this however. With the salaries the way that they are, guys don't have to play for fifteen years to live comfortably afterword. They will take their money and their health and smoke out after sunset................

"the bunker"
the timing of williams` departure was poorly handled....yes,he did leave the dolphins in the lurch.....i feel for dolphin fans...

is the guy a flake?...yeah,probably....but he does have some psychological issues regarding being a public figure and appearing in public...he studders....he`s so shy it`s painful to watch him being interviewed...

he has issues....

and he`s not a slave.....he can do whatever he wants to do...

what good is a guy that doesn`t have the will or "want to" to play the game?

if forced to play,i wonder how effective he`d be?....

he isn`t the first...brown,robert smith and barry sanders....they all took flak for their decisions....

some feel he let them down...definitely put the dolphins behind the 8 ball.......whattaya gonna do?....it`s his life....

as for brown, love that kufi.....anybody know where i can get one of those with a brim on it?....

wrong! Football isn't guaranteed money like baseball & basketball. You don't play, you don't get paid, that simple. Its not like baseball when Mo Vaughn hasn't played for 2 seasons yet still grabbing 18 million a year while retired.

Now can we get little Ricky some rock, I see a Stanley Wilson impression coming up.

as a "caucasion"

as a "caucasion"

I've always felt that Jim Brown thinks he's the only person in the world "totally down with being black".

I think the candy ass media see him when these situations arrive because it's a step from there standard playbook. Just like getting a retired general during a war situation or Rosie O Donnel with carpet munching issues.

Jim has that, shall I call it, "West Coast" (nudge nudge wink wink) style of talking down to people. As if he's doing you a favor. As if you should appreciate every precious second he utters a sound.

Camera whore.
