Why are MOST Mgr's so stupid...

I get so sick of seeing these over-paid EX player EGOS using BAD strategy or just plain stupidity when handling their teams. It happens constantly with so many teams...

TODAY, in MILW, Milwaukee has runners on 1st and 3rd, 1 0ut and the pitcher due next. Hmmm, lets see. Pitch to the 8 hitter, or go with the bases loaded and the pitcher. Oh, hell with it, let's gamble. BOOM!!!! DOUBLE off the wall, 2 runs score! Pitcher up next, DP ground ball, BUT, since we didn't walk the 8 spot, we're down 4-1, instead of 2-1. PURE STUPIDITY!! Maybe there were some stats showing the pitcher was a better hitter than the catcher, but I doubt it. The MGR probably got greedy, decided to try for the DP and have the Pitcher leading off the next inning, who knows... I got a play on FLA and UNDER obviously, so now my only shot to sweep is 5-4, or last nite's score AGAIN! Well, ask Lee Trevino, lightning can strike twice!

I disagree. You can't just walk the 8th hitter every time there is a man in scoring position. He is the eighth hitter for a reason: because he sucks. You have to have confidence in your pitcher to get that guy out.

First of all, you are hoping for the double play, which would lead the next inning off with the pitcher and effectively kill the next inning. Secondly, if you do walk him, after you strike out the pitcher you have bases loaded with the top of the order up. It backfired this time, but Perez made the smart choice here.

I am not sure if I would go as far as sayin that the 8th hitter on a major league team sucks. I mean hell he is playing in the majors.

Also, bases loaded with one out, probably brings out a pinch hitter (In this situation, late in game, needing runs)

You are 100% correct RC..LOad the bases up,Pitcher is up if he Ks 2out and bases loaded for #1 hitter, odds with 2out were out of the inning,.. (also man on third with 8batter up odds are much better he will hit RBI sac fly than pitcher so walk 8man and pitch to pitcher save a run)..etc etc

Jackal, it was the bottom of the 4th inning and the pitcher had given up 3 hits and 1 run, and in no way in trouble. HE DOESN'T PH in this situation. He lets him hit. KNOTTS had hit a couple of batters early, that may have been his concern in loading the bases, but he was already 3-0 on the 8th hitter, gets the called strike, then hits the 3-1 for a double. My point is, once it got to 3-0, walk the guy! DON'T give a HITTER a chance when it's a batter's count. Walk him and throw strikes to the pitcher, hope for a ground ball, but get an out.

Hell, I walk guys in slow pitch softball to get to a weaker bat... if he beats me, he beats me, but the better hitter won't! Simple percentages...

ADD Don Baylor of the CUBS to my list!

BERE had just struck out two of the three batters he faced in the 7th, had 12 K's in 7 innings, and you take the guy out??? ONLY 102 pitches, not like he was spent or anything. I HATE this turn the shit over to the BP BS. It burns you to see a great pitched game wasted by some washed up rag hanging out down in the pen waiting for a chance to come in. I say, let's go back to the old days and let guys finish their own games, or at least get in trouble.

I didn't have much on the CUBS, but I know alot of people did. I happen to be a CUB FAN from way back, growing up in lower MICH, I was less than 2 hours from CHICAGO, hence watched the CUBBIES alot. My dad used to take us to WRIGLEY and TIGER Stadium every year to see games, and I wanna live long enough to see a CUBS World SERIES!
