I can't answer this question. It's over and done. We live in a open society where guns are distributed legally and illegally and things like this are going to happen. We are Americans and I say give the people what they want. If you want a gun have at it. I think Americans have to join me and refuse to be shocked by this kind of thing and get ready for the next one. It's part of who we are. We had fake outrage by what Imus said. This week we have fake shock. I have family and friends in law enforcement and none of them are shocked by this. What happened at VT is who we are, it's the best and worst of what we stand for. Me, I refuse to be shocked, I was stunned but not shocked. If you live in Real World America, you are not paying attention if you are shocked. If you are shocked these are your options : go buy a gun to protect yourself, lobby for more gun control, buy an armored suit, or stay home. Most of us will forget this thing day by day and move on until the next one and show our fake shock again. Not Me !

Christ, you title your threads worse than Dogs That Bark. So the actual subject of your post has nothing to do with Bush at all.

Glad to hear you are above the rest of America by refusing to be shocked. ...Stunned yes, but not shocked. Your not going to be THAT sucker who is shocked by anything.

Outside of friends and family, I doubt many of us are actually shocked- but that doesn't make the event any less newsworthy.

the real rant should be the media.

That now all the media trucks will roll onto that campus and cover this event and proclaim how its so horrific it is while watching the advertiser dollars pour in. Anyone want to lay a bet on just how much of a ratings jump the news networks saw in the past 24 hours?

Should they just not cover it, even though that's what the whole country is interested in and talking about?

yes they should cover it.... But cover it for one week with floods of reporters. How about the shootings that happen in inner city places. Does CNN and MSNBC send satellites over there???

it is one thing to show it, it is another for journalists to ask the most dumb questions, use shock graphics (fvck you fox news), and to use this terrible tragedy to fund the capitalistic greed of tv companies.

Wrong, the subject has everything to do with Bush. I'm just wondering why he is going and also told you what I thought about the subject. I'm not watching tv and listening to the bs so I'm out of the loop. Why go ? Why waste the time and money ? Whats the point ? The event is definitely news worthy, the media has there spin, I have mine. Whats the point in the fake shock coverage, of something that has happened before and will happen sooner > latter again ? I also don't think I'm above anyone, I just have a different way of thinking than most. When we change nothing as a society, why do we expect the outcome to be different. I'm not very smart and I think i'm looking at this as simple as anyone can get.

Bush is going because it's the right thing for our President to do.

I'm sorry that the rest of the country is not quite so gritty and cynical as you, BryanZ.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it almost seems as if you are *shocked* that Bush is going to Blacksburg. ....Well, maybe not shocked, but at least stunned.

Yea i know what u mean, I sure as hell may not have a solution for this , but it happened.

and it will again, trust me. I guess that it comes down to society as a whole. I mean i only tried to point out the differences here in Mexico and why it is that they dont have teenagers shooting up schools.

I thought maybe it is gun control, or maybe they respect authority. Or the fact they think that even this is too f@cked up.

But we Americans need to find an answer quick, to why it is that our schools and offices and streets are getting shot up.

And having the Nations Homeland security color elevate to Orange , is not an answer.

and locking , and having armed security on campus and in offices around America is not a solution, either.

We need to find out How, and Why, not try to protect us.

How are they doing what it is they want to do, and why?

I truly do feel for the kids that need to go to school these days, when I went to school the worst that i could expect was a trash canning or maybe a swirly in the ol boys bathroom.

Or maybe some yahoo had a knife, that was about it. But it was the ol fashion i will see you after school, you just wait.

Now it is, put on the trench coat , ammo belts, guns in the waist , and well it is time to go to work.

I think i will start with my stupid girlfriend ,and then make my way to the one teacher (that does not understand me) and if any kids get up, well i will put a few in them. And while I am at it, i will make my way from class to class. Why am I going to wait till after school, I will handle my business right now. And the best part about it, the news and media will be here fast, maybe even before the police, and i will be all over the TV and Internet before i can get the last round off, which I may just use on myself. They will know about me. Loner , my ass. At the end of this day, i will be known , and famous. Where do I start?

I guess I will head down to my local gun shop and register a few firearms. Head over to my Wal-Mart get my ammo and trench coat.

See ya tomorrow at school.

bro...i see you in here railing against religion...if that`s your thing, that`s cool...i`m no religious zealot...

but,i could argue that guns were just as prevalent around and before the '60s but you didn`t see very much of this back then.....

could it be that this is the nihilism of a decadent culture(rap/video games/violent movies) in which core values are fading with the rise of radical secularism?.......

just sayin`...it`s an argument...

you might wanna go orwellian down in mexico....

i`m just sayin` that in a free, non-judgmental society,it ain`t flyin`...guns won`t be confiscated...

somebody gets beaten to death with a baseball bat,you don`t ban baseball...

a guy runs down students at u.n.c.,you don`t ban s.u.v.`s......

besides, they`re saying that this guy was on anti-depressant meds....he was troubled....i`m sure the media will say he was "marginalized"....but,he was absolutely unhinged....

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- "The suspected gunman in the Virginia Tech shooting rampage, Cho Seung-Hui, was a troubled 23-year-old senior from South Korea who investigators believe left an invective-filled note in his dorm room, sources say.
The note included a rambling list of grievances and ended with the words "Ismail Ax" in red ink on the inside of one of his arms.

Cho had shown recent signs of violent, aberrant behavior, according to an investigative source, including setting a fire in a dorm room and allegedly stalking some women.

A note believed to have been written by Cho was found in his dorm room that railed against "rich kids," "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans" on campus.""

the guy was rabid...

he could have chained the doors and set fire to the place....

Well , my buddy, if he is to do what is "right", he is way behind schedule.

Maybe Bryanz is right to say , what is he going for?

Maybe Bush should stay home and do more important right things to do.

Yesterday, I watched the coverage and they keep me informed as to when the president was to speak, i mean down to the minute. At first it was like he will address the Nation at 4:15, ohh wait it has been revised to 4:10, No they tell us now that it will be 4:03. Ok we wait now for the President. no they tell us now that it will be 4:01.

During this time, I thought , what for?

I then said let me think what it is is is going to say,

Before He uttered one word , I spoke the same words as he, not one thing did he say that I didnt already expect.

What a joke.

I would have preferred him to go on with his already "busy" schedule, because they spent more time revising the speech time, than it took to write that thing.

Agreed to what Branyz said, I think that I would prefer him to go out back and have a BBQ, at least this way he is no harm to the American people.

And for Pete's sake, please drop the Homeland security that is elevated to Orange, I want to go outside.

Not sure why it should be a problem if Bush wants to go to Va-Tech and try to show compassion to those affected. It's the largest tragedy of this kind in the history of our country on a well known college campus. For anyone with a son or daughter on a campus in this country, it is a worrisome day. Personally, I commend the President for going, if he is.

On a much lighter note...he sure as hell couldn't send Cheney...

Where do we find such men?

""Professor Liviu Lebrescu,a holocaust survivor, who was among those killed at Virginia Tech sacrificed his life to save his students. He was shot while blocking the door to his classroom, while students jumped out the window. More than sixty years after his liberation, the rescued became the rescuer.

In a 1974 speech in which he introduced returning POW John McCain to the CPAC convention, Ronald Reagan asked where we find such men. He answered, "We [find] them in our streets, in the offices, the shops and the working places of our country and on the farms." Professor Lebrescu's heroism reminds us that we also find them among those who come to this country from other lands.""

77 years old, and he's left alone trying to block the door?....

TOKYO (Reuters) - The mayor of the Japanese city of Nagasaki was shot and critically wounded on Tuesday, and police have arrested a member of a criminal syndicate as a suspect, officials said.

Itcho Ito, 61, seeking re-election for a fourth term in Sunday's election, was shot by a man in front of his campaign office just before 8:00 p.m. (1100 GMT), a city official said.

Ito was taken to hospital by ambulance after being shot more than once in the back, Nagasaki police said, adding the mayor was undergoing an operation.

The police told a news conference they had arrested Tetsuya Shiroo, 59, a senior member of gang affiliated with Japan's largest crime syndicate, the Yamaguchi Gumi, on suspicion of attempted murder, and confiscated a revolver he had with him.

The motive for the shooting was unclear, but Shiroo was upset at the city's handling of a traffic accident four years ago in which Shiroo's car was damaged as it passed by a public works construction site, public broadcaster NHK said.

NHK reported that Ito's lungs and heart had stopped functioning, and other TV footage showed the mayor lying face down with his eyes closed as paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

"I hope that the truth be revealed through vigilant investigation by authorities," Kyodo news agency quoted Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as saying after news of the shooting.

STRICT GUN CONTROL

Japan has very strict gun control laws and firearms are mostly in the hands of "yakuza" gangsters or hunters.

NHK footage showed police subduing the suspect and putting him in a car. Later, investigators gathered evidence after the shooting while security guards took up posts at the scene.

"It looked as if the mayor was limp on a stretcher. A medic was giving him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation," Kyodo quoted a 22-year-old male university student as saying at the scene.

In 1990, then-mayor Hitoshi Motoshima was shot by a member of a right-wing group after making comments that Emperor Hirohito should be held liable for war responsibilities.

"Whatever the reason, violence cannot be tolerated," Motoshima told a TV program after Ito was shot.

"It's a disgrace for Nagasaki."

Nagasaki, on the southernmost main island of Kyushu, was the second city to suffer an atomic bombing by the United States on August 9, 1945.

Ito had previously been critical of U.S. nuclear arms policies and has been a strong advocate of Japan sticking to its decades-old ban on nuclear arms.

Last year, on the August 9 anniversary of the atomic bombing of the city, Ito criticized North Korea for their nuclear programs and had harsh words for the United States for failing to halt nuclear proliferation.

In October, 2002, lower house member Koki Ishii was stabbed to death by a member of a right-wing group in front of his house in Tokyo, the last known murder of a politician in the country.
