to be honest, i hope he pulls it off.
for history, for family legacy, for eagerness, for tenacity.

ego is perceived as a weakness in the quality of personality ... but to a professional it is a requirement for success.

and i suggest that is true in ANY profession.

who wants to hire a loser?
who wants to cheer on a loser?
who wants to look like a loser?

should pete rose be a hall-of-famer?
DAMN RIGHT HE SHOULD!
the records of his success bears this out.

will Bonds be a hall-of-famer?
damn right he will!

(perceived) weakness of character is arbitrary.

and i hope he does it to prove history, family legacy, eagerness, and tenacity are virtuous qualities in any individual.

I appreciate Bonds' ability and hope he does break the record, do it with the humility that McGwire displayed with his (THaank-you ) attitude.....................
{ like it or not }
People do not remember you for what you did, people remember how you made them feel..........

I think the pressure is a whole lot less then it was on Mcgwire.. Maris's record was around for almost 40 years and he broke the Babe. Mcgwire did it a couple of years ago and the mistique of breaking the HR record is not the same this time. If he does not do I do not think it will be because of pressure. He gets very little to hit.

On the course!
He won't come close. Too many tough games with tough pitchers down the road. I still say we see a 10 game 0-fer outta him, and that will end the dream.

3 games against Mont.
4 against the Mets
7 against Colorado, 3 of them in Colorado.
=5 homers

27 others against Ariz., Hous., SD and LA.
=??
can he get 13 more from these games?

yyz is right. it's do-able but could be tough. but if he can squeeze out 5 or 6 in the next 7 games against Mont. and NYM ... he has a very good chance.

Well, he only needs 18 right now, and there's 44 days till the end of the season. Granted, they don't play all 44days, and he'll probably get a day off now and then, depending on how close he's to the record. I'm still puzzled as to why they actually pitch to him. I don't know the exact stats, but it seems to me, McGwire got walked alot more often than Bonds is right now, and more importantly, since the Giants are in the WC race, you'd think they'd pitch even less to him. Kent hasn't been having his all star season like last year, so they should be pitching more to him. Just my 2cents.

I am a big Giants fan. Sit behind home plate about 1/4 of the games. Watch all that I can.

My take on this is that Bonds has always been an unreal performer down the stretch. This guy has a good chance at getting the record because of how dialed in he is right now. You have to realize that he sometimes only sees 2-3 good pitchs a game.

I no he always chokes in the playoffs but if I'm not mistaken, this guy has had some Septembers to remember. Hopefully this will be the most memorable. I just want someone to unseat OH HOLY Mac! He's just a glamourized 1990's version of Dave Kingman. Not near the ballplayer Bonds is. Just my take.

its a super lock he wont do it. has nothing to do with his ability. if i were at the giants game you might want to be careful think the guy that spent millions on mcgwires record breaker has been practicing at the firing range i think he will pick bonds off. i cant believe someone spent that much money on a baseball. seriously dont know why he cant do it especially when they expand the rosters and bring up the meat pitchers i am sure they will make plenty of mistakes to him.

I THINK YOU ALL MAKE GOOD POINTS IN THIS DISCUSSION. THE ONE THING PEOPLE NEED TO REMEMBER IS McGWIRE WAS NOT PLAYING FOR ANYTHING AT THE END OF THE YEAR WHEN THEY WERE PLAYING THE EXPOS AND HE HIT 5 IN THAT THREE GAME SERIES. BONDS I THINK HAS ALL THE TALENT IN THE WORLD BUT WHEN THEY ARE PALYING AZ, ATL, LA, HOUSTON DOWN THE STRETCH PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE PUTTING HIM ON WITH PEOPLE ON BASE. I THINK IT IS POSSIBLE BUT IF HE DOES BREAK IT OR EVEN TIES IT I WILL MORE IMPRESSED BY THAT ACCOMPLISHMENT RATHER THAN BIG MAC'S.

I JUST DONT THINK HE HAS ENOUGH TIME AGAINST CRAPPY COMPETITION. HE WILL NOT HAVE ENOUGH AB'S.

JUST MY THOUGHTS ON THIS. IT'S NOT RIGHT OR NOT WRONG JUST A THOUGHT.

hello all,

Bonds may do it, he has a good chance. I have read all the posts here and the points are good, but he does have a chance for sure. Just as in handicapping I place little value in opinions that are "never-happens" or "super locks". The pressure will mount on Barry as time goes on, and he has not been a good performer in the past when the money was down. Is it possible that the new park has something to do with some of the homers ?
Finally, don`t call McGuire another Dave Kingman. He just hits 10 homers ion 10 at bats, his on base percentage career wise dwarfs Kingmans, and he is the current record holder. Kingman never was.

HE WILL DO IT AND IT WON'T EVEN BE CLOSE. THERE WILL STILL BE 2-WEEKS LEFT IN THE SEASON TO ADD TO HIS RECORD. I HOPE HE DOES IT CAUSE IN BSB YOU CAN'T HELP BUT ROOT FOR RECORDS TO BE BROKEN. AND WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT PRESSURE HEY WE'RE TALKING BONDS HERE ONE OF THE MOST FEARED HITTERS OF OUR TIME. YOU KNOW LETS WALK HIM WITH THE BASES LOADED SO WE CAN SAVE 3 RUNS. THE 3 TIME MVP ALREADY KNOWS WHAT PRESSURE IS.

BobbyW,

You are nuts. If he were to get it done, it sure would not be with two weeks to go!

The odds are stacked against him.
