over $600,000 so fast??

Why did Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith sell his Gold Gloves? Lots of people are wondering why Smith would need cash flow after he auctioned off his 13 consecutive Gold Gloves for $519,203 last weekend.

He also solid two World Series rings (2006 and ?11) that were gifts from the Cardinals for $51,364 and $42,448. I?m betting if the Cardinals win in 2013 he?s probably not getting another ring. Although it sounds like he needs it.

I know they say that a good number of lottery winners end up in bankruptcy not too long after winning, and we see these stories about athletes going broke all the time, but I just don't get it.

Latrell Spreewell has to be the best example ever. This guy was obviously not bright, but to blow through a quarter billion dollars and now be broke is just amazing.

Ozzie may be trying to beat the TAX MAN. :0008
Wouldn't you keep a million dollars in a safe just to look at if you had the money some of these guys have?.................Best people to have income redistribution, young athletes and entertainers.

Agree. This documentary is amazing to watch.

What was interesting is that I had it dvr'ed and right afterward watched the Benji film about Ben Wilson being killed before his pro career could ever start (or even get to college). At the very end of that film there is an interesting throw-away comment from one of his friends, who they used a lot for the interviews in the film. There was a group of them together and it was something to the effect of "you know if Ben was alive and had 'made it', alot of us wouldn't have the problems we have now".

Just real interesting when Broke had highlighted how the entourages these guys possess and 'hangers on' are ofte the downfall financially.

I HAD THE SAME FEELING WHEN I HEARD THE QUOTE. I THINK ONE OF LEN BIAS' FRIENDS HAD A SIMILAR QUOTE WHEN HE DIED.

I was actually thinking about the entourages on the way to work this morning.

It's strange that the athletes almost seem to have an obligation to support all of their friends. Almost like Mexican restaurants offering free chips & salsa.

There are many people who make serious money in the business world very early. Is there ever an expectation to take care of 80 of their closest friends?

Strange to me.
