I said this exact thing last week
6 teams would beat USC (none on their schedule.. though..)
I stand by what I said before
Texas is number 1
Georgia is #2
Virginia Tech #3
USCam is #4
(miami, Auburn and Pitt .. just kidding .. FSU) would still beat USC
Just about anyone with a good defense can play them straight up
If USC played in a conference where they actually play Defense they would lose a game at least (ACC, SEC )
Week in and week out its a grind..
Playing ASU, Oregon STANFORD ARIZONA CAL UCLA (powderpuff blue suits them so well..)
But....
They will be number 1 until beaten and honestly, rightly so, they are the champs to shown otherwise..
Kudos for them going for the win (albeit on the 1 foot line instead of the 3 yard line where it should of been) vs ND yesterday
Jeers for grabbing the lead and letting ND march down the field and take the lead..
A true number 1 stops them there...

NO!

USC is the 2 time defending National Champs and USC plays a tougher strength of schedule. I do think if Texas played USC this Sat. they would have a much higher probability of beating USC vs beating USC in Jan. Same with V-Tech and anybody else. USC will be rolling in the 2h of the year heading into the Rose Bowl. Pete Carroll teams do not lose in November/December/January. Only 1 loss since Carroll arrived in those months and that was year 1.

USC might not get there because they still have 3 more tough games left. Fresno St., @CAL and UCLA. Only then will USC get passed up in the polls if they lose to one of those 3 teams. Fortunately for USC, they play all 3 in Nov./Dec.

?Two time defending National Champs?? I think that LSU would have something to say about that because last time I checked the 2003 trophy was in Baton Rouge. The ONLY thing that USC earned in 2003 was the right to bitch about not be included in the National Championship game, not unlike Auburn in 2004.

I am so freaking sick of hearing about the impending "Three Pete" that I could puke! You have to REPEAT before you can start talking about a ?three-peat?! USC backers are by far the most arrogant fans in the country and while they definitely deserve all the respect they can muster for their stellar 2004 season, the idea that this year's title is a forgone conclusion is nothing short of self infatuation.

The Trojans are a great team and great teams do not need their fans to defend their average preformances. USC continues to win but that does not give them the automatic No. 1 ranking anymore than it does to Texas, Virginia Tech or Georgia. Alabama and Texas Tech also remain undefeated. How much consideration do they deserve?

Carroll was outcoached by Weis yesterday and it very nearly cost the Trojans the game. Quinn played a better game than the reigning Heisman Trophy winner but in the end it was not quite enough.

USC is among the elite college football teams in the country. Are they the absolute best? That is doubtful and there is no credible argument that can be made otherwise. The No. 1 ranking has absolutly NOTHING to do with who was last year's champ but rather the best team in the country THIS YEAR!

Over the last four weeks, USC has shown that they simply are NOT the best team in the country THIS YEAR. They will fall to No. 2 in the Coach's Poll and maybe in the AP.

they can't be moved from the top spot until someone beats them period. Even though some don't believe they are the best team out there, they are still winning all of their games and for that, they are still #1 in my eyes. It will be very interesting to see what happens if and when USC meets up with the likes of a texas or va tech.....I think a couple of athletic QB's could really cause SC some problems. ND gave everyone a blueprint on how to beat SC......can someone finish the plans?

Knew that bait would suck in a response from the USC catfish king. Yeah, tough schedule. Those Berkley Bears were 15.5 favorites to that strong Oregon St bunch, and lost SU. Yes those Trojans will retain their #1 ranking. Just like one of those slimy bastards left in your wallet for too long, they are bound to fail at the moment of truth. Hope BEVO gets a chance for the insemination

When the BCS comes out there will be room for a number of teams to jump USC. Admittedly, Notre Lame is by far the best team that USC has played this year, BY FAR. And guess what, USC won. They only way to truly say a team is the best in college football, is if they played 118 games and won every one. Never gonna happen.

USC has as much right to say they are number one as Texas, Va Tech, Alabama, Georgia, Texas Tech. Even with teams in the ACC, Big Ten, that have losses, they could beat USC on a given Saturday. But they haven't.

And that is why we love college football. A team like Alabama can come from probation and after 6 games and defeating the #4 team in the country, say they have a right at #1.

Even my favorite team, Michigan, after a horrible start and heartbreaking losses, turns around and beats the #8 team in the country (Penn St), that also beat the team the week before (Ohio State) that with a different flip of the coin could have beat the #2 team in the country (Texas). Oh yeah, they also DID beat the team (Mich St), that DID beat the team (Notre Lame), that should have beaten USC. So one could easily say that Michigan would give USC a run for their money. But most including myself wouldn't see it going the wolverines way.

If USC stays undefeated the question you have to ask is, why shouldn't they be #1? If they are in the rose bowl, Either Texas, Alabama, Georgia, or Va Tech is probably gonna have the chance to make their point. BUT until there is a playoff, no one else will get there chance, and they will be sitting in the bichin seat just like Auburn last year, and USC they year before. Remember the coaches said USC was the National champions in 2003, But the Opelika News named Auburn champs in 2004. Since the BCS, neither really matters anymore than the other.

Really? Then why didnt Auburn start the season ranked No 2? Texas, Va Tech, Bama, Georgia, UCLA, Texas Tech have won all their games - why cant they be ranked Number 1?

I don't think auburn started the season #2 because of what they lost from last season. USC is the two-time defending champs.....returned a heisman winning QB.......a probable heisman winning (this year) all everything guy in Bush.....and a ton of other weapons. Everybody knows preseason polls don't mean a thing but you can't argue with where SC started and have stayed.....granted those other teams are unbeaten...but until SC looses a game, they are where they should be in the polls. I agree that Texas may be better but can you truly justify moving SC out of the top spot? If Texas takes care of its season, I think they'll have their chance to prove they are the #1 team in the rose bowl against SC......and I hope they do because if SC is laying any points at all to texas, I'm all over the longhorns.

I jbow why they didnt start no 2. But it shows the argument is bullshit. If they havent lost why should they lose their ranking until they lose? All that should matter is this year.

I agree sun that all that matters is the present year.....so how do we do it? Should there not be a poll until the 3rd or 4th week of each new football season? That would work for me, but you know the ncaa and others making big $$$$ off of things like preseason predictions and polls would never have it. There is indeed too much subjectivity involved in preseason polls.....just look at the likes of where ND and Penn St. for example where at the beginning of the year.....nowhere.....On the flipside, look at michigan and purdue....they were both ranked pretty high and look how they are this year. Playoff is the only thing that would truly satisfy me......it would make the polls irrelevant just like they are in college b-ball. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll get that anytime soon......only flaw in a great sport for me.

Never happen, but how it should be.

so you're saying look at a teams full body of work throughout the whole year......who would determine the poll then? coaches....writers....or a committee of ncaa people who sit in a room for a weekend and make up the final poll.......that would bring too much subjectivity in it for me still....I want it determined on the field.
