I read recently that windows XP wasn't going to have support soon, does this mean we are forced to go to Vista or will the system continue to work until something breaks. ??? BTW I hate Vista, I have it on one laptop and windows XP on another.

Microsoft is stopping support on XP.

XP wont be phased out for a while.

You never have to go to another OS. For instance, you can still run Windows 95.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
Last I read, Microsoft set the dates as full support for Win XP ending in April of 2009, and extended support (which is what all most folks need) ending in April of 2014.

Microsoft supported Windows 98/ME until 2006...

I notice Dell is still offering to install XP, instead of Vista, to business customers.

My next laptop I'll have my geek friends partition the hard drive and have linux run in one. I can't stand the long startups and shutdowns with Windows (among other things).

you can install linux if you have windows installed already..when you go to install it, it will partition the drive for you.

try this http://wubi-installer.org/ or go here http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_windows_xp_and_linux_xp_installed_first.htm?page=1
