I absolutely cannot get the Service Pack 4 from the windowsupdate.microsoft.com
it only offers #1, i downloaded that and for an hour, it did nothing after it was installing it.
i goto a search for #4 and everything i try to download gets an error
please help me!!!

if you are using xp, go to the start menu.
--click on Control Panel
--click on System
--click on the Automatic Updates tab
Type in what is checked on that screen, and I will try and help. I am no computer expert, so there may be someone in here that can help more.

You guys need to get a firewall, and not one of those free software ones like "Black Ice". :nono: Those are crap IMO. (better than none at all I guess). You need to get a hardware firewall like the Linksys BEFSR41 or the Netgear PR614. The best $60 you have spent on computer equipment in a while.
Couple this with Norton Antivirus and this is all the protection you will ever need. All that free spyware crap you guys talk about is unecessary, and puts your system at the mercy of poorly written "free" code. You be the judge... :shrug:
Chump - there is no SP4 for XP. Only SP1. If windows update isn't working on your system, go to Microsoft Downloads and download it manually. Then run the installer. Be patient - it takes a good 30 minutes to install.

I just read that the worm that has hit Windows was scheduled to infect the patch on the Microsoft website in a few days so if you are gonna get it I would get it soon.
need this to fix another laptop, shit just did one this one will only stay on for about 1 min. almost had patch in once then it shut off,this sucks, fixing mine last week was long enough but this one shuts down fasr for some reason.
