Aloha Wisconsin: Public pounding Badgers

The strange numbers sportsbooks present for teams traveling to Hawaii are confounding bettors once again.

According to one 5Dimes.com, the public is playing the Wisconsin Badgers hard for their clash with the Hawaii Warriors tonight. The Badgers are currently 7-point road favorites.

?Everyone thinks the Badgers will win and cover,? says the linesmaker, who preferred to remain anonymous. ?We?ve got a lot of people on Wisconsin and very few on Hawaii.?

A win would give No. 22 Wisconsin third place in the Big 10 and a likely spot in a lucrative second-tier bowl game. They?ll face a Hawaii team that?s 4-6 on the season and just 2-3 at home, despite the extra ?hardships? that come with teams traveling to the Aloha State.

?You have to expect that this is the first trip to Hawaii for these kids,? says the linesmaker. ?We take into consideration the fact that if the team has a little extra free time, they may hit the beach for a couple hours ? do things they may not be able to do during other road trips.?

Those who turn their nose at that theory need only to look to last season. The Warriors faced Big 10 teams in back-to-back late November games. Hawaii beat Northwestern 49-41 and then Michigan State 41-38, both as 7-point underdogs.

?Michigan State and Northwestern were good games for us last year,? adds the linesmaker.

That Hawaii team won and covered its last seven home games. This season, the Warriors are 3-2 against the number at home, with both ATS loses coming as underdogs versus ranked teams.

The Badgers sound confident they can extend that to three too, even if their 94-ranked passing offense is up against Warriors quarterback Colt Brennan and the nation`s second-ranked air attack.

?I know what they are going to do. They are going to throw it, and they are going to throw it well,? head coach Barry Alvarez said. ?We`ll be fine.?

real good info there, thanks

not enough to warrant a Hawaii play, but enough to get me to lay off the Badgers

Yep, I am laying off the Badgers also. Don't forget how they lost their last two regular season games and the bowl game last season. This year they lost their last two Big Ten games... I like the over a lot better!!!

Some Facts In Favor of Wisky

Some Facts In Favor of Wisky

I gain a lot from this Board but don't have time to contribute much. Reading the above in favor of a play on Hawaii, here is a list of some info that I assembled from various sources on the net, info that supports a Wisky play. Take it for what it is worth and GLTA!

1. We alll know what happens to teams going to Hawaii. BUT the Badgers have been there for over a week, and have had plenty of time to settle in. The usual "Island distraction factor" doesn't apply. Local sources say they all went to a movie last night to keep the team together and focussed.

2. This is the last game for Barry Alvarez and you have the team wanting to "win one for the Coach".

3. Aside from #2 above, Wisky has a bowl game to play for and Hawaii does not. This is a VERY IMPORTANT game for Wisky.

4. This is Wisky's last game of the season, and they have just had b2b losses and were embarrassed at home to boot. Aside from the bowl game, they have every reason to want to win this one. Hawaii, on the other hand, has NO BOWL and another game at home next Saturday vs San Diego State.

5. Last year Hawaii won two huge games vs Michigan State and Northwestern, to end their season and put them in a Bowl. Those games were a total fraud. The WAC refs gave those games to Hawii and Chang to get them advanced. In the Michigan State game, there were 2 long TD runs called back and the penalties were totally one-sided, with 16 for Mich St (119 yds) and 5 for Hawaii (35 yds). The Northwestern game was was also called as a way of getting Hawaii into a Bowl. BUT this year there will be neutral refs (apparently part of the deal to get Wisky to play on a Friday nite). So there wil be a level playing field this time.

6. Wisky is the better team (forget the stats, it's apples and oranges). Take the factors out that seem to favor Hawaii (sunshine and refs) and you've got a solid Badger win. Add in the importance of the game to Wisky and it's lack thereof to Hawaii, and the argument says the Badgers.

THE NEGATIVE SIDE

The Wisky defense gives up a lot, especially OTR. The Hawaii offense and QB Colt Brennan are good, but the Warriors are still 4-6 while the Badgers are 8-3 in the Western Athletic.

THE BETTING

The line opened up a bit shaded to Hawaii since the public likes to bet the Warriors in these situations. But the money has come in on Wisky and this is both public and sharp money, and this is one case where the House may be left holding the bag.

JMO...I've put it out there to give food for thought. It's not all my original research, but my compilation from various sources. Not touting myself as a great expert here.

NOW...BARTENDER!!! A Double Wisky please!!!

(above bar order not original)

:)

Nothing like kicking out a quick article when a big book needs some $$ on the other side.
