Only two games today on the slate. 3-1 Sunday leaves it at 44-25 on the year.

Back with plays around noon.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Will Detroit let down after finally getting that first win? Especially with a back to back, they could be susceptible. I suppose they could use it as a confidence builder, but look at Detroit's football team. After they finally got their first win last year, they totally laid down the rest of the way.

Here's what I posted at the other place. Ironically, DET was yesterday's BEST BET.

BEST BET: Minnesota -6.5

Detroit got their first win of the season yesterday to end their 0-13 start to the season. But that didn't mean that DET played well. It was really a game of which team played worse, and SAC won that contest. The Monarchs shot 30.2% from the field vs just 35.8% for the Shock, below DET's season average of 38.9%.

Having just played yesterday, DET comes into tonight's game the more tired team. MN has been at home since last Monday with only two games since. Their last game was last Saturday, a nice win over ORL. DET's leading scorer Swin Cashed played all 40 minutes of yesterdays game. And I'm sure that there was some celebrating afterwards.

As DET shot only 36% yesterday vs the worst D in the league; they should have an even tougher time tonight vs MIN's D which is ranked #2. MN's home court advantage is also ranked #4 in the league.

I don't think MN will come into this game overconfident, last Saturday's win over ORL ended their own 5 game losing streak and they know that they need to build on that win with a winning streak of their own.

gl

FWIW I also like this game Under 132.5. DET is tired, they can't shoot, and they tend to foul a lot. MN can't shoot either from the field or from the line and they have the #2 D in the league.

Predicted score:

Minnesota 63 Detroit 51

Personally I was leaning the over on this one but the line came in right where I thought it would be. Hmmm I guess I would go under as well if I had a gun to my head.

I have twice been on hoops teams that started the year with an 0'fer. Both times after we won our first game, we won the second game. Just didnt like the fact that people were writing us off again, and we came out fired up. Thats my take on the game tonight. I see a little more of a high scoring game though, and while I dont think Detroit will win, I think it will be close.

Minnesota 70
Detroit 66

will throw in my 2cents here as Minn -7 is a large play for me....Superbook's stat of Lynx's D combined with Shock's horrible shooting is what yelled out at me....have listened to the last 3 Detroit games and Mr. Lambier's virgin cruise into coaching leaves a little something to be desired....I factor coaching very strongly into 'capping this league, moreso than the NBA, because the ladies listen.....coaching in this game is worth a hoop or two, talent another, home-court and scheduling makes the Lynx a play for me.....

Just a couple of more thoughts if anyone is interested.

The Lynx have their best starting line-up of the season going tonight.

Svetlana Abrosimova is in her second game back for MN after missing a game due to injury. Against ORL she had 14 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Tamara Moore, acquired from MIA for Betty Lennox, got her first start in the last game. She played 32 minutes and hit 3 of 6 from the arc and contributed 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

Katie Smith looked the best she has all season in the game vs ORL: 7 of 14 from the field including 4 of 6 from the arc. More like her form from last year than what she had been showing in earlier games.

The reason the Total is a lean for me is perhaps we're seeing some new offensive weapons for MN which will mean more scoring for them.

Jon you know I hate being on opposite sides, but ack this is like the SATs once I pick a side I hate to change at the last minute esp if I can make an argument either way.

I agree about coaching however I personally think Lambier is going to be a positive influence on this team. Note in the second half Detroit clamped down and only allowed one bucket in over 8 minutes. This obviously will not continue, but I think it bodes well for them in tonights tilt. Seven points is a lot.

That being said, Detroit will probably get crushed.

Ace --

I appreciate your point of view and share it. And as the Valuist says even the best horse doesn't always win.

That's what's great about MJs and the other forums, that we can share our info and plays.

I found this pretty interesting:

The Monarchs made their first seven shots, including three three-pointers on the way to a 20-4 lead in the first six minutes.

The rest of the game? The Monarchs made 12 of 56 field-goal attempts (21 percent).

Good luck to everyone tonight. On a personal note, tonight I hit the 5 month mark, as in 5 months left in my mba program. 2.5 years of working full days and going to school 4 nights a week until 9. Cant wait till this damn thing is over.

Go Shock!

Is it a no-no to ask what the "other place" is where you post? It's no big deal...I'm just looking for more opinions on WNBA. Thanks.

Detroit is now up to +7.5 at most places.............so I took a flyer on Detroit 7.5 seems like a lot of points!

Thought I'd add my 3 cents worth...............and I'll be the first to admit that acehistr8 and superbook know way more about the NBA then I do!

(I make my money on tennis...yes I did say tennis stop laughing!.. actually you can se all my Wimbledon plays in the "off the wall" section.....doing quite well!)

Once again.......good luck....at 7.5 somebody is going to win! Well I suppose the game could be cancelled! Give ya 100-1 on that one!

Season: 8-4

Before the lines came out, I was thinking that each home team should be about -7, so when the lines came out I decided to pass today. Now that I see some of you folks on opposite sides, I am even more convinced that these games could go either way and I'm taking the night off. Good luck everybody.

PASS

Looks like we should have played Charlotte.

The top five teams in terms of home court advantage:

1. Charlotte
2. Sacramento
3. Washington
4. Minnesota
5. Miami

Yeah, as I remember booze was one of the only ways I made it through the P-T MBA program while working F-T.

My first wife and I went through the night program together and after 9:45 when we got out we'd grab a six-pack of Bud (tall boys) and drink them in the cab on the way home.:)

FWIW I took MN/DET Under 73.5 second half.

Amazing stat, at 15:17 left in the second half:

DET has committed 22 TOs vs only 7 for MN, but DET's hot shooting (53% from the field) is keeping them in the game.

MN has 10 steals already.

Again Detroit turning to something that helped them in their first win, balanced scoring. 4 in double figures. Over is good.

Ding, ding, ding? 2.5 wins tonight, Detroit does not want to lose this game they are shooting LIGHTS OUT! I dont know, I won the over, but completely miscapped the game from a scoring standpoint. I will not look a gift horse in the mouth.
