Gentleman just got finsihed watching the Sparks blowout of Utah. I lost a unit on Utah as the Sparks shot the lights out. Now this turn of events may set up a possible play Monday night and what a play it might be.....

Det at Utah. I have seen a potential line at -9 which would be in line with the points Utah has layed at home and Det has been getting on the road. I look forward to thoughts on Utah as a play here for the game, but it is the 1st half that has my attention.

The last time Utah was pasted on the road they played at Cleve and lead at the half by 9.

Utah at home first half last three=

Min 27 Utah 41
Hou 33 Utah 40
Por 29 Utah 40

Det on the road last two=

Det 8 Hou 18
Det 35 Min 42

Now will Det come out guns blazing after having the worst scoring 1st half in WNBA history?

Will Utah come out and show no mercy against a the weakest of teams or suffer letdown and play flat following loss to Sparks?

Right now I am looking at playing Utah first half as a very large play.........

IMO any WNBA team can play with any other for a half. It's usually in the second half that the better team starts to pull away. That makes these first half plays a little dicey.

Also, this is the 4th game in 6 nights for the Starzz.

Utah may be the better team but they've got to be tired.

I'm going to pass on this one.

I'm going to pass as well. Pass, blah what a so so weekend. 55 -34 now on the year. Have not had a killer night in almost a week. Will try to change that, but this week, may try to focus on only 1-3 games a night, not 6 or more. Worth a shot.

Looks like this thread is getting all of the action. In case you missed it this is what I posted last night:

BEST BET: New York Liberty -6

I think the Liberty got a wake-up call in that 44 point performance at The Garden vs Portland last week.

In their following game, they got a double-digit win against an improved SEA team.

As I mentioned in the write-up on that SEA game:

"The Liberty started the season out well but have lost five of their last six (now seven). Part of their problem has been that the team has compensated for its lack of size over the years by using a full-court press, but ankle injuries to Tari Phillips and Sue Wicks have hurt the teams D in the last few games.

Phllips played 33 minutes on Sunday vs Portland but Wicks, who missed the two previous games, played just 14 minutes.

IMO the Liberty D is still a couple of games away from being at full strength."

Wickes played 17 minutes vs SEA but that game was almost a week ago. The Liberty haven't played since last Tuesday so they're well-rested and hopefully Wickes is closer to 100%.

On the other hand, Phoenix is playing their 4th road game in a week. And they play again Tuesday night at Washington. All of these road games have been on the East Coast, meaning PHO hasn't been home in a week and they've been living in hotels and practicing in strange places. The Mercury have also got to be down, losing their L4 in a row. They played some tough games on the road earlier in the season, staying with 5 and 2 in two games at Houston. But last weeks 22 point loss at CHA and 25 point loss at MIA suggest that they're a different team now.

Phoenix is 0-6 on the road but this stat is somewhat deceiving as they've played some good teams and lost some close games. But FWIW, the Mercury have lost 12 straight road games dating back to last season.

The Liberty match up well vs PHO, as New York's strength is its D. PHO has a weak D which will help the Liberty, as their O is among the worst in the league. PHO is also not a tall team which puts them the Liberty on more equal footing in terms of rebounding.

The Liberty, the pre-season favorite to win the Eastern Conference, are currently in 4th place. They need to take games like this if they're going to make a run for the playoffs.

Phoenix is a decent team and I don't think New York will take them lightly. But the crazy WNBA scheduling and home court advantage certainly favor the Liberty here.

I also played Indiana -2.5 based on a somewhat similar rationale:

- a floundering CLE is playing its third game in the L4 days

- IND plays much better at home

- revenge

BigMonkey --

I've been thinking about your DET/UT game all day and I think the way to go is not the Side but the Total.

Obviously a lot of people think this game is going Over as the line opened at Oly at 139.5 and is now 144.5.

IMO this game is going to be Over 150 so I still see some value here.

Shock Acquires Guard Elaine Powell From Orlando

AUBURN HILLS, MI-Detroit Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer announced today that the club has acquired Orlando Miracle guard Elaine Powell and the team?s 2003 first round draft pick in exchange for forward Wendy Palmer and the Shock?s 2003 second round draft pick.

Powell will not be available for tonight's game. This hurts DET.

Virtual guaranteed as soon as I bet NYL under, they would learn how to score.

Alas, Washington won, Utah and Indy covering right now.
