Saturday’s 6-pack:
Since 1998, fewest wins in baseball playoff games:
2— Reds
3— Pirates
6— Orioles
9— Rockies, Twins
10— Blue Jays
11— Mariners

Quote of the Day
“Pleased with Shedeur (Sanders), pleased with the offense. Again, not perfect. Plenty that we can work on. But I thought the guys did a really nice job of Shedeur operating, the guys making plays. So, again, a ton to teach on.”
Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, after the Browns’ 30-10 win at Carolina

Saturday’s quiz
In the movie For Love of the Game, Kevin Costner is a great pitcher who throws a perfect game in his last career start. What number did Costner’s character wear in the movie?

Friday’s quiz
Evan Longoria is the all-time leader in home runs for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Thursday’s quiz
Tennessee Titans lost their only Super Bowl appearance after the 1999 season; Steve McNair was their quarterback in that game.

***********************************************

Saturday’s Den: Random stuff with the weekend here…….

— Cleveland P Gavin Williams almost pitched a no-hitter this week; he threw 126 pitches, came up one out short. Guardians are contending for a playoff spot; in this day and age, is it smart to let your ace throw 126 pitches in a game they led 4-0?
When does Williams pitch again? He threw 126 pitches on Wednesday, Cleveland is off Monday. Will be interesting to see if they give him an extra day of rest and have him pitch Wednesday.

— Gap between the highest/lowest spending team in each sport:
NHL- $44M
NBA: $88M
NFL: $132M
MLB: $296M

— Kurt Warner made the Pro Football Hall of Fame after playing at a I-AA college (Northern Iowa); his son EJ Warner has played a lot more college ball than his dad did, but he’s had sort of a nomadic career, bouncing around between schools.
2022- Temple 3,028 PY. 18 TD’s, 12 INTs
2023- Temple 3,076 PY. 23 TD’s, 12 INT’s.
2024- Rice 2,710 PY. 17 TD’s, 13 INT’s.
2025- This year, EJ Warner will be the QB at Fresno State, since Rice fired their coach and is switching to an option-based offense.

— Los Angeles Chargers lost their best offensive lineman to a knee injury this week, a week after they gave him a four-year, $114M contract extension.
26-year old OT Rashawn Slater was the #2 rated tackle in the league last season.

— More info on the Chargers:
This year, Chargers are #3 in NFL in $$$ spent on defense, #27 on offense.
Chargers made the playoffs two of the last three years.
QB Herbert is 41-40 as an NFL starter, 0-2 in playoff games.
Last year, Chargers were +12 in turnovers (21-9).
Bolts were 11-2 ATS as a favorite, 1-3 as an underdog.
11-6 Chargers were 4-4 in games decided by 8 or fewer points.
Chargers haven’t won a playoff game since 2018; they haven’t played a playoff game at home since 2009.
Last two years, Chargers are 2-9 ATS as an underdog.

— Including the guaranteed $13M he is making this year, Colts’ QB Daniel Jones has banked $121M over his seven-year career in the NFL. Lot of $$$ for a guy with a 25-45-1 career W-L record, 1-1 in playoff games.

— They don’t play overtime in NFL preseason games.
