Will givem credit for putting up pic--without it you'd get entirely skewed slant of article as with many.

after seeing pic you see why no one would hire her for restaurant or store or any job that required standing or walking for any length of time--and any smart employer is going to see an inevitable workmans comp claim -with Haskel waiting in the shadows with the faulty "weak" chair--or discrimination suit.:mj07:

Would give 2 to 1 shes never worked same job for 6 months.

and a job as a nursing assistant?? :mj07: That's hard work. No way she could turn, change, dress, and transfer people; heck, she probably couldn't even run up and down the hallways when the bed alarms go off. What a joke.

A: Ditto on the groceries- can understand why van broke down and compact car not an option.:)

I guess it's probably more fun to make fun of *their* electable habits, that will probably shorten their lives, than your own electable habit that killed my dad 18 months ago or Jacks dad a couple years ago, that Jack has done for decades, or mine with dip, or whatever.

I've seen you rail on about the obese dozens of times over the years, uh, 'weighing down' the health care system, but I haven't seen much about smokers from you. Weird.

You always want to cite 'statistics', but you blatantly ignore the most obvious statistics on a habit that you embrace and will possibly be a long-term, uh, drag, on our health care system.

Don't get me wrong, I have, and have had, enough bad habits that I don't lecture anybody about anything, if they are self-contained and not hurting anybody. Live and let live is my motto and always has been.

This thread just kind of reminded me about how wound up you have always gotten about obese people and their effect on the health care system while you chain-smoke.

obesity is a far worse problem to healthcare than cigarette smoking. Smoking is terrible too, and Wayne always readily says that, but obesity costs much, much more.

Hmmm. I'll take your word for it, for now, I guess.

If I ever get interested enough, i'll look into it, but I know you're in healthcare and I respect your opinion on that subject. I do know that, what, a half million people a year die from lung cancer, with 90% of that attributable to smoking?

I don't want to turn this into a bashfest of smokers / vs obese. Not the point whatsoever, as I mentioned in my last post.

But whatever the case, I find it ironic, know what I mean?

Everything is not black and white (again, a certain irony), but my friend Wayne always wants to make it as such.

Ahh- you're right, of course.

I took it off-topic because Wayne's comments reminded me of many, many times, he blamed the obese for our health care crisis while he chain-smokes.

But i'm being serious when I say I agree with you about the original post.

appreciate that, and although I have no stats to back it up, and I suppose I could be wrong, that's been my experience. You just only rarely see smoking crippling a persons health while in their 30s, 40s and 50s, but I see it all the time in those age-groups for the morbidly obese. I argued/discussed with a friend recently that I would rather see a person smoke and stay around 200 lbs than I would see them quit and gain up to 350 or 400.

I know I've not ever met somebody on disability purely from smoking while I've met many on disability for the sole reason that they were so obese they couldn't get around and work. Sad but true.

Sorry Matt but I fail too see any remote correlation whatsoever--between 300 hundred lb plus people on every entitlement program there is complaining they can't get a job when doubt they could walk 100 yards without having to rest.--

wtf are you thinking of?.....were you eating ice cream and experiencing "brain freeze"?....

going from discussing slovenly, slothful obese women who are a drain on society..... who are to stupid to understand that this is the exact reason why they aren`t able to function in society to name dropping the dearest of the dear and using their demise to make some sort of obscure, pathetic analogy?...

you`re not only rude, you`re not stable...

you`ve been one noxious, absurd mofo lately....

Would any of you hire the two women shown in the picture?

After answering that, is it fair to assume they are "lazy" in the sense of trying to find a job? I don't doubt for a second they are lazy in general, uneducated, and pretty much worthless. But, let's get real here....saying that they can't find a job because they are lazy is probably off the mark.

what is missed here is that smoking doesn`t exclude someone from being a productive member of society for the majority of their lives....

these women act as though they have no idea what the problem is...

i feel badly for someone in their situation, but,at what point does one look in the mirror and have the lightbulb go on?...

the whole f-cking article misses the point that being unemployed,slothful....depending on welfare as a lifestyle....appears to be endemic throughout this entire family...

So is the problem that they are taking advantage of the system or that their pathetic lifestyle makes them unemployable? If nobody will hire you, don't you have to rely on Welfare. Isn't that kind of the point?

"Nunez's van broke down last fall. Now, her 19-year-old daughter has no reliable transportation out of their """subsidized housing complex""" in Fostoria, 40 miles south of Toledo, to look for a job.

"""Nunez and most of her siblings and their spouses are unemployed and rely on government assistance and food stamps. Some have part-time jobs, but working is made more difficult with no car or public transportation.""""

""""Nunez, 40, has never worked and has no high school degree. She says a car accident 17 years ago left her depressed and disabled, incapable of getting a job. Instead, she and her daughter, Angelica Hernandez, survive on a $637 Social Security check and $102 in food stamps. """

someyhing tells me this didn`t start with the economic downturn...

how many 40 year old people do you know that have NEVER had a job?....she had a car accident at 23,you say?.....

so wtf was she doing from 18-23?....

the whole clan lives in this complex....and theres not enough money between them to get a clunker?....

i got my fiirst car at 27 and i inherited that...i took 2 buses to get to get across town to high school every day ...couldn`t afford to go to the private high school that was right across the street...

i took a bus to load trucks at u.p.s. during the summer and worked in a senior citizens home....

it`s sad....i totally agree....but,if you believe that helping perpetuate this life style is doing this family any favors,i would totally disagree...

Matt was one said I chained smoked not me.

I smoke USA Gold untra lights--switched to them several years ago in effort to stop (from Marlboro lights)

Smoke from pack to maybe 1 1/2 depending on how long I'm on computer at home.

However about half smoked during day are 3 puffs and put out.

I am only one in my office building that smokes therefore I do not smoke in building out of courtesy to others. From 4am to bout 10:30 in office I will go outside and take bout 3 puffs of cigerette and put it out. Go through 10 to 15 that way.
At home go outside to smoke with exception of when in computer room.

Smoke the most when playing golf--after tee shot generally fire one up--take a couple hits till I get to my ball--then put it out till next hole.

Also never smoke in another persons auto-house-building etc whether permissible or not.

Does that cover all bases?
