I believe you three all reside in the Georgia.

My wife is on route too GA currently too watch her brothers graduation from the ARMY. He wasnt doing much with himself so decided too enlist a little later then most, but overall said he is glad he did it.

She is heading too I believe its called Fort Bennings.

Couple things I was curious about:

1. My dad called me freaking out saying there was supposed too be a terrible snow storm down there and my daughter is with wifey so he is all worried. Is it really that bad down there right now? Anything too worry about.?

2. Good places too go eat for her and father-n-law when they are down that way. She is staying at a hotel i believe within 10 miles of the base, so if any of you are familiar with the area let me knw.

3. Good part of town>? Bad part? I know I shouldnt worry, but there are parts of pittsburgh where I woldnt let her go, just curious if GA has any of their own "no-go zones"

TIA if any of you are able to respond and help out. If not its ok too:0074

Yes she is going to run into ice! It is 34 at this point and things are slowly improving but what doesnt melt by sundown will probably be here until sat. My driveway is a still a sheet of ice and the road I live on is covered with slush that will refreeze as it is supposed to be in the low 20's to teens the next few nights. I do not know how the major roads are, but I would not let my wife leave the house at this point, mainly cause she couldnt get out of the driveway. Bottom line is she is heading into a state that is not prepared to deal with what we were hit with. I would suggest checking out http://www.wsbtv.com/index.html and looking over some of the traffic info dealing with 75 and 85 south since that is what she will be travling on!

Not real familiar, just pass through 5-6 times a year. There are places in Columbus that I would not want my wife and children staying, but it is obviously not pittsburg.

BTW south of Atlanta got the worst of the ice, but they have also had a little warmer temps so I am not sure what she will run into south of atlanta.

thanks for that site. It says how I-285 entrance ramps are closed, and her GPS says she will be hitting that very soon so thanks for the heads up man....just got off phone with her and told her.
Man those roads look like pure ice.

Victory Lane
the schools all continue to be closed

slush is freezing tonight as its going down to 18 degrees again.

little of the snow has had a chance to melt at all.

last night from watching news the major roads, 85, I 20, I 75, I 285 had tractor trailer trucks sitting under bridges all night for miles. Jack knife trailers were really a problem last night. 3 lane parking lots.

They are starting to get major roads clear but the surface roads are solid ice now.
Georgia is not equipped for this as it is never this severe. So when it does happen like this we are pretty much at mercy of DOT and gravel trucks.

Its just not safe to be driving here right now.

especially in metro Atl.

Ft Benning area not sure how bad it would be. its south west towards alabama.

Ft Benning is right outside of Columbus. Columbus is very tame and not much can go wrong. Good places to eat is pretty much any bbq place. There are no "no go" places there so she should be good to go. I lived in Albany (about an hour southeast of Ft Benning) for 30+ yrs. Ft Benning has taken a turn for the better with all of the new construction and expansion they are doing. Hope she has fun but Columbus is a very small city and nothing to do there.

If your wife has time, have her check out Callaway Gardens. Very beautiful and near Columbus. Great BBQ in Newnan, Ga. at Casselberrys near Columbus as well.:0008
