It doesnt even make sense money wise...he can get $12 million for this year, plus endorsements, his NFLPA marketing cut and so forth....much more lucrative than $20 million over 10 years.

I would lose a ton of respect for him if he just took the bribe not to play.

I understand that is a lot of money and from a pure business perspective it may be a smart move by him but it just feels wrong to me that he pulled all this crap about wanting to play now he just takes a lump sum to stay home.

also sets a bad precedent in my opinion.

It really looks bad . Maybe everyone will forget in five years when Favre is inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Favre needed a retirement package and what better way to leverage it the way he did.

I dont like this money chit that always shows up. But some time you like to see the little guy take it to the man. Mean while our running back is getting screws put to him.

I agree with that. They better sign Grant or I will drive the 180 miles and hang Thompson.

I'll bring the rope djv.

There's no way Brett "For the Love of the Game" Favre takes the money. Won't happen.

Actually, there is one way I can see it happening. They structure the deal so that if (more likely "when") Rodgers goes down, the deal's dead, they revert to last year's playbook, Goodell reinstates Favre a second time, and Favre then rejoins the team and resumes his role as the starting QB. Sure, it'd be messy but I could see it happening.

...........................................................

If they do that Rodgers is dead meat.

He will not be able to play with that hanging over his head. It will make him crazy.

Cut BF and give him the money let him go anywhere he wants. He is making them look like
the Falcons last year/.

Grant signs 4 year deal. This is good for both.

:iagree: with that Scotty.

The Packers upped the ante to $25M to keep Favre on ice. From the Packers standpoint, it makes a lotta sense. If he's reinstated, they have to pay him $12M and deal with the circus it would create. Or... for $2.5M per year, they keep him out of a purple jersey and tell him to keep his tractor pointing North...

I don't understand what the issue really is? Tons of other greats left their teams they been with to finish their careers on other teams. No big deal, trade him and get a draft pick or two and say thanks.

Montana 49ers to Chiefs.
Jordan Bulls to Wizards.

The list could go on and on....

I honestly cannot believe the Packers would let Favre play after all of this.

If they do and he starts, what if he tanks, his throws are not accurate, and he throws interceptions ?

Then you bench your HOF QB and put in Rogers ?

It's still a giant poker game. GB can say they are letting him compete to start but either they are lying or Thompson has lost what little bit of credibility he has.

I think it is all PR plus they dont want the NFLPA and Goodell on their backs. You cant "discriminate" against players in how you treat them (ier limiting Favre to individual drills) and if you keep saying you dont want him it looks real bad.

I think Thompson's plan is to (a) hope he can make an immediate trade or (b) do what he can to set him up to fail, then cut him at the last possible minute to save the money and make it tought for him to go elsewhere....specifically Minny at Lambeau on opening night.

Favre hasnt been a saint in this, but from a football perspective Thompson has royally F'd this up. Even Aaron Rogers' mom knows Favre is better.

Why wasnt it as simple as this...........

Farve.........Mr. Thompson I have a change of heart and would like to come back..........

Thompson........Well Brett you know Aaron has been looking pretty sharp in drills since March so he is vastly improved but I will tell you what........If you want to rejoin the team and compete for the starting QB position we would be glad to have you..........

Farve.........sounds great, I will see you guys at traning camp.............

Pretty simple...........dont the GB dumbasses realize that they would have a better QB in Rodgers if he were able to win the starting position from Favre........I mean if you are going to pin the future on a guy you should have enough confidence he can compete with an old man........

What is the most comical is that if anyone should know what kind of desire and determination Farve has its the Packers hierarchy............did they think they could make a guy who has has never missed a start in like 16 years just cave..........it almost seems they made him more pissed off............

We shall see.............
