Wow, I don't even know what to say. I can't believe that's on Warren Zevon's board of all places, sick.

OT: DTB, you a big Warren Zevon fan or just stumble across that?

From Wayne's link to that forum that he provided.

Re: "**** the Troops"

Reply #24 - Today at 06:35:45 The people burning the soldier in effigy were not war protesters, they were the (miniscule) contingent of anarchists who apparently are against the war protesters as they are against everybody. I guess.
I couldn't quite follow their arguments. They're anarchists you know.

By the way Badger, since you have indicated in some past posts that you thought they might be amenable to rational conversation (a delusion I did not share with you), how is your conversation with the anarchists going over there on portland.indymedia.org? Have you persuaded them to support the troops yet?

The Oregonian had a front page article yesterday on how upset the Linfield college student who took these pictures was that Matt Drudge grabbed 3 of her 245 photographs and suddenly those 3 represent the Portland Peace March. There were maybe 20,000 folks peacefully expressing their views. There were about 15 (at most) anarchists who were responsible for the behavior getting national publicity.

What I can gather from their somewhat incoherent screeds is that they are demonstrating against everybody, including liberals. Neocons too I guess.

The tactic of portraying their behavior as behavior typical of the many peaceful demonstrators that day will no doubt be very successful. However it is entirely dishonest. Proving the point that I have made here many times before, news from Matt Drudge is not news.

More from Wayne's link.

"On more than one occasion, I worked with Fox News producers and reporters. Once, in Herat, I saw one of the Foxholes approached by a couple of soldiers. One of the soldiers said he was glad they could finally talk to a "conservative" reporter. The reporter laughed and said, "Someone's got to balance out the liberals." But, later, I ran into that same reporter in Bagram. He wanted an interview with some soldiers and, when I grabbed one at random to ask if he wanted to talk to Fox News, the soldier--an Army captain--said he didn't, because, as a Democrat, he wasn't a fan of the network's politics. The reporter, shaken up, said that was ridiculous. The network had no politics, but only told the truth. "Whatever," said the captain and walked off. The reporter, after a few beats narrowed his eyes at the soldier's back and quietly hissed, mother****er. "

More from Waynes link:

I didn't see the banners which are doubtlessly reproduced in a billion neocon websites by now, notwithstanding that they portray .00001% of the demonstration. I did see the anarchists running around in their bandanas. So I in fact witnessed many people, including public safety personnel, exhibiting tolerance.

And what precisely should I have done about "these antics"? I mean, it's called the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution, is it not? Why don't you tell us what you would have done about it? And by the way do you consider the numerous public safety personnel who were present as terrorist sympathizers as well?

This is something I learned today (via gossip but it has the ring of truthiness to me). The anarchists in question broke away and went rampaging off on their own through downtown Portland (this part I did see). They were looking for a fight but in order to get into one they had to go down to the Federal Courthouse, which is on the same block as the Central Precinct (i.e., main police station), and basically yell epithets and insults at a bunch of officers to get arrested. I guess you can cause a ruckus if you try really, really hard.

Too bad a certain crowd of folks magnified their miniscule presence here by a factor of like ten zillion.

kosar...i`m not directing my comment personally at you...i believe you feel pretty revolted by this garbage.....i mean the burning of our boys in effigy and the putting of shit on the flag....

it`s beginning to look like viet nam again.......by that i mean these miscreants blaming our soldiers for foreign policy that they disagree with..

where do these "people" think they got these freedoms they enjoy?.....who do they think makes sure they live in a free society?....

why can't they connect those two small, yet very close together, dots?....thier stupidity, and/or arrogance is mind numbing....

it`s disgusting that these p`s.o.s. live amongst us...

i think that`s what dtb`s saying.....he`s not saying that all who disagree with the war are bad or anything like this group.....

but i`m afraid there`s more of this garbage than we know....

I'm revolted every bit much as Wayne about those signs, hanging/burning troops in effigy..etc. BELIEVE ME.

However, I became interested in the posts from the link to that forum that Wayne provided. From people that were there and others more clued in than maybe you, Wayne or myself about this particular protest.

Did you read them? I'm sure Wayne didn't. Probably not you either.

Whatever the case, to use these hyper-visceral images to advance some sort of agenda is intellectually dishonest, without some sort or disclaimer or clarification that it apparently was a very small percent of protesters.

I don't think you get it weasel - you are complaining about 15 people out of 20,000. They are a NON-FACTOR. 0.00075% It's nothing, absolutley nothing. But thanks to great even-handed journalists like Matt Drudge, it becomes big news and distorts everything about the peace rallies.
