Chuckie -240
Shogun +180

please stay around this line close to fight day. Maybe my love for Shogun has me blinded but this line is way out of whack. I thought Chuck would be around 125 or so.

I agree about the foot stomps and kicks. There was a point in the Coleman fight that he would have unloaded with a kick to the head while Coleman was hanging on, in Pride he would have ended it there but not in the UFC. That actually is my biggest worry about Shogun. Those rules where made for him.

There are a ton of things that worry me about him fighting Liddell. Mainly he likes to swing freely and doesn't mind eating shots, Chuck isn't the guy to do that against. I don't think his take down skills are good enough to get Chuck down so his subs are useless. So where can he win? Honestly I don't know LOLOLOL but if he can get back to his Pride days the fans will love him. They will eat up his fighting style and he'll be very popular. What he did to Rampage was absolutely unreal.

Here's the GREAT unknown for this fight, how will Chuck training with ATT(I believe that's the camp he went to) change his fighting.

That's funny the gun @ +180....Liddell is getting fat, and a couple more shots like he took versus Evans and he will become brain damaged goods....
Chucky ought to get out of this sport, like NOW!

Shogun hasn't been dominating but with that line, I'll take him against the pudge

hahahah I know Sponge but in know way is my love for Shogun anything close to Kicks for GSP.

This will be a hard bet for me because I really do like Chuck as well. I think he's been as good for the sport as anyone and at the perfect time. But, much like Wandy, I think Chuck has just taken too many big shots and it's finally taking it's toll on him. It will be a good fight and both guys really need it. I'm pumped, I'm 50/50 on whether my wife and I go right now. We've been planning on going up to that area to visit a friend for a while so it looks like it's perfect timing.

my gut is that rua will run into something and be put to sleep brutally...

that said, nobody knows how a 38(?)year old chuck will react to a couple of recent bludgeonings(rampage/evans)....

we all know that brutal k.o.`s leave residual effects much like nfl players and concussion syndrome....

I think the price is too good not to play Rua.

I think L-Wood described the sentiments on Liddell very well. The only thing I would change to that is, yes he's been good for the sport but he has been great for the UFC. Being 1/2 the poster child with Coulture when Dana made his push to mainstream UFC - Liddell has been the guy who has been the most consistent company man.

So would Dana throw Liddell to the wolves after a 3 losses?

The matchup and the odds - My take is that Rua, undeniably, has not looked like the best Pound for pound since his octagon debut against Forrest. I do think the sport has been Americanized enough that a large percentage of the betting public has only seen Rua fight two times - compared to Liddell who has fought 9 times since the end of season 1 Ultimate Fighter. I think that's why the line is laying 240 on Liddell.

If it wasn't for Fox Southwest running Pride fights at midnight - I would be one of those above that would say I have only seen Rua fight twice and he lost one and didn't look good in the other one.

The truth is - he's a damn good fighter and against a 39 year old slugger - you have to take the 180 and gamble that he doesn't get KTFO'd

Gotta run but before - on worrying about Rua gassing again - It won't be Chuck out to man handle Rua in a grappling match - which to me is an energy sucker - I think Chuck will keep his arms wide and slowly stalk Rua which has been his motis operandi since I began watching - so I think that is an advantage to Rua in this fight

Rua plays right into Chuck's stength as a counter puncher... That, and Shogun hasnt showed that he can play one round of "duck duck goose" without gassing.

Chuck has major question marks of his own, but this fight is huge for him..... HUGE. He wants to make a run at the title, and this fight is a shortcut for him if he wins... if not, he'll be bombarded with questions, yet again, about his retirement..

Chuck has been working at ATT to become "more well rounded".. I dont think he can spend much time on the ground with Shogun, but he can score points with takedowns like he did against Wandy.

Prediction: Chuck keeps his range in the striking game, lighting up Shogun early with his counter punching ability. Eventually, Shogun will tire and begin to shoot.... Chuck stuffs Shoguns takedowns with ease and gives Shogun a lesson in striking accuracy.

Chuck by unanimous decision

Raw, I can see that happening very easily. Shogun's style does play in to exactly what Chuck likes to do. The one thing I will say about Shogun is that he's young, has a very very good chin and hasn't been hit with those shots like Chuck and Wandy. If Shogun can get his cardio in check then I really think the fight is 50/50. If he can get Chuck in the clinch then it will be very interesting.

Saying that, if Chuck wins I won't be upset. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a championship bout one more time. To me he still is the ROCK STAR of the ufc and big hits are always fun to watch.

My guess is Shogun wins round 1 and then he slows down, as usual, and Liddell takes 2 & 3. Shogun is good at overwhelming his opponent in the first round, but he can't keep that pace throughout the fight.

Here is a funny story from an MMA magazine (article on Wanderlei from either Ultimate Grappling or FIGHT! magazine, i cant remember)..... I'm not gonna sit here and copy it verbatim, but I'll summarize.

(Shogun and Wand are still in Brazil at Chute Boxe.)

Shogun has a pit bull who has puppies... Wand decides he would like one, and Shogun obliges..

Days after Wand picks his pup, Shogun asks Wand when he's going to pay him.... Well, Wand was under the impression the puppy was a gift.

Time goes by and Shogun is still asking for the money...... They agree to have a sparring match (standup only with big gloves) in which they go at it until one is either knocked out or gives up. The winner gets his way; meaning if Wand wins, he keeps the puppy for free.. if Shogun wins, Wand pays up.

The article stalls a bit and Wanderlei says "I wont tell you exactly what happened, but lets put it this way........ I did not pay for that puppy."

I wouldn't bet Shogun if u guys offered me the money with the option of not paying u back. Two times he gassed badly and his punches looked awful against Coleman especially when he was gassed. Chuck has to have learned from his fight against Rashad. In my opinion after watching it again last night Chuck did the best against Rashads out of all of Rashads opponents. He just got way to aggressive like a person who thought the other had no chance of hurting him. The knockout is a concern tho so i will sit it out. Just can't see Shogun winning any part of this fight unless he somehow hits that glass jaw.

Are you serious? SHOGUN is free money!!!

I don't really buy the whole plays into another opponents strengths unless the fighter isn't aggressive enough to counter as well.

Thiago Silva played right into Machida's counter style as well, but what else does he do? Stand up against the fence and just wait for Machida to come after him?

Thiago was aggressive, but with no cause. He went at Machida, and did nothing. It made no sense to me.

Now if Shogun can go after Chuck, clinch him up, or actually go under control, I could very well see another chuck getting KO'd.

Shogun has faced a few good strikers, and definately alot of great wrestlers. He's never been knocked out, I wouldn't consider that TKO a legit "knock out."

Shogun isn't wild and isn't super aggressive. He knows when to pick his spots and he's very methodical.

I've seen that video of Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett getting into it with one of Wand's training partners from the PRIDE days....

Bennett ends up getting triangled in the dressing room. :mj07:

I'll try and dig that up on Youtube...

Thanks Rawli, that's exactly the one I was talking about. Haven't seen it in a few years, but it was hilarious.
